Went out for my first ride in the wind today. Despite the air temperature being pleasant enough it really surprised me how cold my upper body got on the ride due to the wind (was wearing shorts and a running top until my cycling gear comes).

Do you just put a base layer on under your jersey?

A gilet and/or arm warmers for me. The latter mean you can whip them off when it gets warmer (good for starting out on a colder early morning ride and then being able to take them off when it gets warmer later on).

I prefer just a windcheater.

A lightweight Gilet. I have a Rapha classic ii and I find it keeps the wind off you doesn't overheat you.

Gilet is interesting, though it was mainly in my arms and hands that I was feeling it so wondering if a gilet is going to help that!!

Me too, little insulation but stops wind chill & with a full zip is very adjustable & can fit in a jersey pocket if not required any longer.

Light gilet and arm warmers.

The thought of buying a Rapha gilet has never entered my head, and never will.

Didn’t know warmers that weren’t a full base layer were even a thing! See that’s why you should never be afraid to ask silly questions smile

Also available for legs to :-) I find my legs are usually OK, but I've been starting out on early rides during the lockdown (6-6.30am) and it's been a little chilly so had the arm warmers on, but by 9-9.30 it's been short jersey only weather so nice to be able to whip the arm warmers off.

Yeah my legs were fine, arms and hands was where I really felt it! It was deceptive, sunny and bright and warm when the wind died but when it was whipping up it was Baltic!

Knee or leg warmers are brilliant too.

I'm all over the place at the moment ! Furloughed so am riding early doors for 25/30 local miles. It's still bloomin' cold first thing, and I don't run particularly warm anyway, so currently out in L/S base and a Gabba..... Plenty warm enough, almost too warm if the sun gets stronger before I've got home. Also on occasion out in S/S Gabba and some thick Stolen Goat arm warmers, some liner gloves & short fingered gloves. Easy enough then to whip it all off and pocket it. Legs never cold, shorts since 1st March smile

Seeing plenty of people out in summer kit early mornings, maybe I'm just not riding fast enough to warm up !!!!!

A base layer if it's slightly warmer, otherwise I have a Castelli Perfetto which is windproof but doesn't overheat me. I have a Gabba too but that's a bit thick and best for wetter days. edit: I think Castelli have renamed stuff now - I have a short-sleeve Perfetto - bought "as new" but 2nd hand because I'm not made of money biggrin
