Hi all

I just called my local bike shop to see if they can fit new disk brakes/levers and shifters to my old Klein Attitude Comp - they've told me they currently have a month's backlog, so I'm considering DIY.

It's one of the late Klein (post Trek) models so has the early Deore XT hydraulic disk brakes and combined shifters/brake levers.
I'm struggling to know exactly what I should be ordering - given delivery delays I don't want to end up with all the bits except a vital tool.

Could someone perhaps suggest exactly that I need? At this point the Wiggle website is rather confusing (half the brakes/levers don't seem to have a left or right hand option).

I'd like to keep to Shimano (mid-range would be nice) - but don't want to go overboard.

- something like this https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/shimano-deore-mt501-4-... perhaps?
- I guess I'd also need the disks themselves
- some pipe (oil?)
- shifters (I've got three gears at the front and nine at the back)
- any special tools (I have plenty of car and DIY tools but very little MTB specific stuff),

Huge thanks in advance!

Buy a bleed kit, and try fixing the brakes you have by yourself. Something like this https://epicbleedsolutions.com/products/shimano-bl...
Otherwise it's going to really add up in cost, due to the integrated shifters.
At a minimum f+r brakes (lever caliper and hose normally come together), f+r shifter, you might want new shifter cable too.

Hi
I've already paid a fair whack for someone to refurbish the callipers. I'm still pissed off the advice wasn't just to replace them as I'm now spending twice.

Any way - that's a different discussion and the bike had been sat unrideable since last year, I live in a lovely part of the world to ride a mountain bike around.

Hence my request. I know broadly that I need new brake levers, calipers, disks and shifters - I need an MTB expert to suggest exactly what I should buy. I'm assuming I can get what I need for £250 or so.

The bike is lovely and worth spending the money on, sunk cost or no.

If this was a car or a computer I'd know exactly what I needed, but I'm not a nerd with bikes!

I just replaced my ten year old Cube’s Formula RX brakes (they kept seizing on) with XT M8000s for about £220 - this was all in, including new discs and mount adapters. You may need to shop around as they’re now old stock, but I like them a lot.
