Imagine this is a regularly asked question.... but i'm looking for a helmet for road riding / some trails etc - nothing hardcore.

However is there anything wrong with the planet x ones at around £20 / £30 - they seem to meet the safety standards etc and look ok?

Anything to avoid?

These sorta things?

On promo at £15

Well, some folks would say that if you're going to wear a helmet, what's the point of not getting the best?

However, as I am not convinced that more expensive is always better, I decided that the min I wanted was to have MIPS system within the helmet.

I also found that some makes seems to fit me better than others. I tried several Giro helmets, but seemed to be designed for a different shaped head than mine.

I eventually bought a Bell with MIPS system. Bell Formula MIPS Road Helmet 2019 for £50.

Planet X helmets do meet the minimum standards, nothing wrong with them. However as the previous comment, I would rather have greater protection and only use MIPS now. At the end of the day, the helmet is only as good as the fit, not all brands will fit the shape of your head. It is always a risk buying online without trying, only you can decide if it is worth it.

Interested in this also.

I’ve been looking at the Specialized Align (£30) or a few of the £40-60 Giro offerings. Had never heard of MIPS until recently and can’t decide whether it’s essential or not. I don’t cycle a lot, twice a week max and mainly old railway lines / gravel paths with very little road riding. After giving mine a fair whack recently and realising that it’s over 10 years old thought I’d better order a new one really!

I read that some of the dhb helmets are made by Kask. My thinking was for the sake of an additional £20-30 I’d go with something like Giro or Specialized over something like Planet X.

Apologies for butting in to your thread Dan_1981, please let us know what you decide to go for...

I’ve got helmets from different makers including PlanetX.
I bought a MTB helmet in bright red specifically to wear in the woods during the hunting season in France, there was a rider accidentally shot couple of years back so decided needed something bright.
When I’ve bought in the past helmets have usual fitted out of the box, however I had to add additional padding to make it fit and it is heavier than other helmets.
I think helmets protect to a standard and apart from mips the advantages associated with price are fit and finish not protection.

Everyday use get a light weight good fit.
Occasional use not as critical.

I'm just getting back into road cycling and decided it was time to upgrade my very expensive 11 year old S-Works carbon kevlar road lid. So I bought one of the Carnac Croix jobbies from PX for £10 and I have to say I'm absolutely delighted with it. Actually, I'm lying, I bought two...one black one for normal rides and a fluorescent orange one for grey days and winter rides. It's actually a way more comfy lid than my old S-Works!

Arrived nice and early this morning.

Seems ridiculous good value for the money paid although I'm no expert.

Very light and really comfortable when I've got it on.

Hopefully I never need to test out it's true credentials.
