Is there any functional difference between the traditional shaped helmet and the rounder-looking skate style helmets?

I've always felt that with the trad shape a fall forwards would just push the helmet back over the top of the head, leaving the forehead without much protection, whereas the rounder ones look more likely to stay in place - is there anything in that or is it all about fit?

Having to replace one after he took a fall off the back of his scooter which slipped out in front of him - loud crack noise on the concrete, helmet split, not a mark on his head. smile

Easy enough to test. I know nothing about cycle helmets. How old are the children/is the child? If they are unlikely to have their head higher off the ground on a cycle than on skates or a skateboard so a skate helmet should be fine.

EF sense!

Can't test unfortunately because no shops, online only. Could just buy him the same again but Mrs Hill was curious about the rounder helmets.

I bought my lad one of these, added bonus of a built in rear light as well and seems to cover the back of the head and sides well
