Hybrid bike choice

After some advice. I have always been interested in cycling and my kids enjoy it too.
My daughter is almost 11 years old and wants a hybrid bike. I am expecting her to suddenly have a growth spurt. She currently has a girl's Raleigh bike with 24" wheels which she has outgrown.
She fits my wife's adult bike, so I am tempted to get a full blown adult bike this time so she can grow into it. I want this bike to last into adulthood. We mainly cycle on made up tracks, cycle paths and roads covering between 10 and 20 miles each ride.
I am looking to spend around £400 max. Do we 'need' a women's hybrid?
