Hello all, just a thought...

I started looking at the Canyon Grail 6.0 in december, it was priced at £1199. By the time I bought it in February it was £1299 (i did ask if they would honour the earlier price, i had missed it by about 1 day, but they wouldn't) and I have just looked at their website and it is now priced at £1399. Same bike. Same spec.

Is it normal for bikes prices to drift upwards throughout the year? I would put this down to the C-19 pandemic and supply and demand but it had already crept up before that all kicked off!

Its not a dig at Canyon or anything, they can charge whatever they want, just seems strange to me! Do other bike manufacturers do this?

Funnily enough I am looking for a gravel bike at the moment and I was on the Canyon website this morning looking at the different variations.

How do you find the bike?

Is a lot of the price fluctuations not to do with the weak Pound v's the Euro?

I absolutely love it! I don't have much to compare it to however, as it is my first every drop bar bike, but I have been bitten very hard by the cycling bug!

I have been doing a mix of road rides where I hit 65kph on the descents and can almost average 30kph over 20km - alongside some true "gravel" roads around the local MOD ranges, as well as a little more technical offroad stuff, the bike seems to be able to handle it all.

Having the gravel specific groupset was a big draw for me, a lot of the competition seemed to be running road stuff. I also think the bike looks the nuts, which was a big draw if i am honest hehe

It could well be due to Euro / Pound fluctuations! I hadn't realised the £ had dropped so much!

Buy in Euros if you can.
Pre January £1= 1.2 €. Today 1.15 but between those it’s been down to 1.06.
Direct sellers are quick to manage the exchange rates. I can usually get things in euros at better prices than the web sites exchange rates. As they don’t change the prices daily the ere on the low side.
Try a Revolut card to get a good rate then pay in euros.

Just checked 1499 euros @1.2 =£1249
@ 1.15 =£1303
@1.06 = £1414

So looking at that the price is not bad

Thanks - this is exactly what I want to hear as I'm also looking for my 1st drop bar bike! Unfortunately their website is showing the Grail won't ship until late July!! They do have a couple of Medium's in stock but they are high spec Grail's and are > £3k and I wasn't planning on spending that much.....not sure whether to order and wait or look elsewhere.

I think times are rather different now... but the "expected delivery dates" fluctuated a fair bit when I was ordering. When I ordered I was told late March, but I had the bike by the end of February. When I have bought bits from their store (I wanted the canyon bottle cages because I am vain hehe) they came quicker than expected too.

I imagine anywhere that is shipping bikes at the moment will have delays. Even Evans were saying end of may for a boggo hybrid for my wife.

The canyon is a hell of a piece of kit, so if you can wait for it, I reckon it will be worth the wait.

The same spec Canyon Ultimate bike I bought last year is now nearly £800 more tha I paid.... at the time there was nothing in the same price range with a comparable spec, when I looked at their recent sale I half expected to see it a lot cheaper that I paid..

I’ve seen quite a few things on line with their prices hiked up. There’s been a big demand for certain items such as gym equipment, snooker tables, weights, rowing machines. As people looked to buy stuff they can use in the lockdown. The exchange rate doesn’t warrant those price fluctuations.
