Hi,

Having cancelled my gym memberships recently and working from home. I'm looking for a way to get my cardio going without going outside (I'm in Sweden so the weather is st).

I have a mountain bike, so firstly I'm wondering if these trainer things work with MTBs and if that is workable? what would be a good basic model that would allow me to hop on for 20-30 mins cycling every day but allow me to easily remove the bike and use when the weather is nice?

Are there any other considerations I need to think of also as I'm a real noob with all of this stuff when it comes to equipment.

Cheers

Yes you can use turbo trainers with a mountain bike. You should check specific models regarding compatibility with wheel size. Try here to begin

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.cyclingweekly.c...

‘Wheel on’ i.e. non direct are cheapest but more than sufficient for your intended use.

I have used an Elite Direto-X OTS 2% Direct Drive Smart Turbo Trainer (c£500) with both hardtail and full-suspension mountain bikes and of course a road bike. Recommended.

If you are thinking about a wheel on trainer (one where you leave your wheel on the bike) you'll need a slick rear tyre for your MTB

We have the Elite Qubo Digital Smart B+ Turbo Trainer, works fine with my cube 27.5 MTB and even for the kids 20" mtbikes. However I've always swapped the rear tyre on the MTB to someone like a slick road type tyre as thin as I can get it. Otherwise the tyre might damage the TT roller and also it makes an awful noise.

I think then I'm looking at a device where I take the wheel off as I don't want to muck around with a 2nd wheel etc.

Is there a good budget solution anyone can suggest?

Demand has exceeded supply for turbo trainers, so trying to find stock might be an issue though I've seen some shops are getting shipments in now.

DCRainmaker.com has some very good content if you want to look at some of the models out there:

Elite Direto were going for around £500 new pre-lockdown but doubt they are still that cheap!

Sigma have the Saris H3 in stock but that's £849
