My right hand side FSA Comet crank has a slight bit of play in it, which I noticed after a fairly tough ride on the bike at weekend.

I've watched several videos online which suggest just using a 10mm hex/allen key should be used to tighten it up, but 10mm is too small (its also the largest I currently have).

Anyone know the correct size/tool so I can try and get this sorted? There is some torque info on the nut with "M17" - is that a 17mm allen key?

Many thanks.

Stab in the dark: is there a smaller bolt underneath the larger one?

No - don't think so. Image attached.

Could be wrong, but I think it uses the QR 20 self extractor - which is a 10mm allen key. How much too small does it seem to be if you push it right in (as the actress said to the bishop)

Have you got a pin spanner to remove that lock ring?

I don't think that's a lock ring, it just allows the bolt to be used as an extractor. You should be able to remove and replace the crank with it in place.

It's only very slightly too small, but I am now starting to doubt the allen key I used was indeed 10mm. It's hard to tell with a tape measure - I'm going to order a new one and see.

M17 refers to the size of the thread, not the allen key needed, which I can't seem to find after about an hour of googling.

Most of the time if you have ridden it loose, then the spline will be worn. It might tighten up ok, or it might not, so keep an eye on it.
