Was a keen cyclist 20 years ago, now nearing 40, Have a Saracen Hybrid that wasn't expensive that has been used on and off since I got it 7 years ago (mostly off). Doing circa 100 miles a week at the moment and want to expand on that and increase pace,

Budget wise £1k would be ideal but I'm a lover of a bargain so if something is more than than but represents value I'm in!

I'm 6'3" so need something with a decent size frame.

What do you recommend?

Do you want a CX bike for racing, or a drop bar bike with bigger volume tyres that can handle light off-road duties? as they are now called "gravel bikes" smile

A full on race CX bike is designed to be ridden for an hour, so they tend to be a quite aggressive geometry. So, take your pick from Canyon Inflite, Trek Boone, Specialized Crux, Ridley X-Night, Giant TCX, Focus Mares, Cannondale SuperX, etc

For £1000 brand new you'll usually get an Aluminium frame, but for that price you could get a decent 2nd hand one in Carbon - and a lot tend to now come with 1x; which doesn't suit everybody.

Personally, unless you're actually racing cross, I'd get something like the Domane, Synapse, Defy, etc A road bike which can take 30mm+ tyres, so you can venture off road on lightish/ forest trails.

Yeah, something with drop bars that will allow me to increase my pace on-road but also be able to be ridden on light off-road situations.

One of my mates has got an Orro Terra as a winter bike, it’s a really nicely made frame and looks like a much more expensive bike in the raw ally finish.

Pinnacle Arkose always used to be the standard answer. I bought a Norco because I like to be a bit different. It's a great bike, cost well under £600
