After many years of strict adherence to the n+1 principle, I have too many road bikes. Some of the ones I don't ride are really quite nice. Yes - a PH first-world problem...

Is this a good time to be selling some bikes because summer is coming, people are cycling more because of the lockdown and the shops are shut? Or a bad time to be selling bikes because we're on lockdown, no-one has any money and the mechanics of delivery etc will be fraught with difficulty?

I took a look at eBay, but found it hard to form a judgement. I haven't actually bought or sold any recently so don't have a feel for market conditions.

The PH hive will have an opinion, so I'm interested in your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

If you're planning on selling face to face as opposed to posting you might find it tricky to do so without breaking some guidelines.

One colleague of mine took delivery of a new bike yesterday, another has one coming in a week or so, and I've been looking around as well - I'd say now could be a good time to sell.

I'm looking for something carbon framed. No reason, just like the idea.

I would say now is a good time to sell.

I am looking for a 58" Large framed road bike for my son and prices seem high and things are selling quickly.

Tried the usual Facebook SouthWest (I am in Bristol), eBay and Gumtree and they are all going for strong prices.

Good luck

Thank you. I think I'll give it a go.

I have three fairly special (each for their own reasons) bikes to advertise. Tomorrow should be a good day for taking some pics in the sunshine...

Stuck in the house, gardening done, cars all clean, I've nothing better to do than surf Ebay for stuff I really don't need.

I bet I'm not the only one.

So I'd say it's a great time to list something.

I'm sure a buyer wont mind delaying pick up for a couple of weeks.

I put about 50% more than usual away into savings this month. Not everyone is skint, yet.

Looks like you were right...

Plenty of interest in the two eBay auctions I started, both of which are for quite special bikes. Lots of views, questions and watchers for each. Enough - I think - for competitive tension to lead to "favourable price discovery".

We'll see.

Certainly seems to be a sellers' market, both used and new.

Have been looking for a couple of weeks for a good clean year or 18 month old cyclocross or gravel bike for a mate and been surprised how strong prices are.

Also wanted a new one for me, found a 2019 NOS bike that fitted the bill at the right price. Offered to pay in advance and take away in the manufacturer's carton to build myself (which I really enjoy); nice easy transaction for both parties you'd think. Oh no, there's a queue to dig it out the warehouse, and it has got to be built and safety checked so will be 14 days sir... genuinely shaking my head at that one but am close to 2 grand better off than I was expecting to be by now. Customer is always wrong it seems.

Know a couple of lads who, not able to do their own work have sold a few bikes they've had lying around, they're flying off the shelves so to speak. Leave them at their garden gate and when someone contacts them they can go and discuss at regulation distances.

No one is following the guidelines.
People are sitting at home with more money than sense buying stuff at twice the price in all areas. People are posting stuff left right and centre and picking stuff up from people's homes.
Its just up to the individual to decide where their priorities lie.

The rules on non-essential travel are not as strict here in Germany.

I‘ve serviced, cleaned and sold quite a few bikes for my neighbours over the last few weeks - the market is strong here.

I should add, we have quite a tight group of very friendly neighbours who help each other out, hence my willingness to sort out and sell everyone’s bikes when required!

I guess it depends on what your selling. But I put my bike up for sale as collection and got a lot of interest but no sale until I bought a bike box and quoted for shipping. Then within 24/48hrs I got a sale at the price I wanted. Its a good rime to sell if your prepared to ship.
