I was browsing YouTube and disappeared down a rabbit hole (as you do) and came across a channel by a guy called Hambini.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDIaNEeyU0w

He basically rips manufacturers build standards apart whilst obviously selling his own bottom brackets in the process.

In spite of not knowing a good bottom bracket or indeed much about bikes full stop I found it fascinating watching.

In your opinion does he have a point or is it just salesmanship?

I'm into cycling, but I don't watch cycling videos on Youtube. Despite this, I have also watched a couple of Hambini videos myself. Never all the way through, though, because I'm not really that interested.

I am interested to know why these are cropping up all of a sudden. Why is this channel getting recommended to people all of a sudden?

I like his videos, although his style is grating after a while.

Makes you realise how poorly expensive frames can be made.

Was interested in his BB90 video as I have a Trek which has had one Trek BB repair already.

He can come across as a bit of a at times, but also a total at others.

He's an engineer, so is reasonably knowledgeable - but can come across as a bit of a prat.....

I think he's funny because he obviously knows his stuff and doesn't give a fk about offending people/companies, but once he's shown the BB shell isn't a perfect circle after 5mins he doesn't need to stretch it out for another 40.

It’s nice to see BS claims from manufacturers (e.g. Zipp dimples) being called out as BS but I think he’s unnecessarily rude towards people which I don’t like.

Last week’s furore with Cycling Weekly’s MAB was an example of him being a complete prat.

I think he's a talented and knowledgeable engineer, and the way he explains engineering principles is enlightening.

At the same time he's a social tt with a potty mouth.

He's had some weird dealings with wheel manufacturers involving apparently made up lawyers letters and posts on forums as different people using the same account. All very strange.

Can't stand his attitude and personal attacks on people.

I respect his engineering but worry a bit about the slating he hands out. He's commenting based on the material he's given to inspect. I'm not sure he sees a true representation of a product as he only sees troublesome bikes?

I understand the engineering well enough, but he does come across as a self aggrandising onanist.

I watch his videos despite the style he delivers them in. He does seem to know his stuff and the engineering side is interesting. I'm not sure why he thinks being a childish dick adds to the videos, but hey ho.

He's become more notorious over the last couple of weeks because of a spat with a female cycling weekly journalist about a sexist joke he made about bearing fit tolerances and the female genitalia. He made the joke when calling out a complete shower of an aero test on helmets that they ran.

Unnecessary and a bit distasteful in my opinion, he'd do much better if he grew up a bit.

I enjoy his videos. He is obviously a good engineer. The pro teams use his bb so they must be decent.
The guy comes across as a , but I think he knows that and plays it up. He gets views to his YouTube channel by being offensive.
If he can tone down the 10% his channel would be more successful.

I like his videos. Sure he's offensive and remarkably rude but that's the style. I'm sure there are plenty of others making less rude videos: his USP is his knowledge combined with his direct style

If this is the case (and it probably is), it's still not an unreasonable thing to call out. Manufacturers should have adequate quality control so that they don't ship the friday afternoon units to poor unsuspecting customers.

Having a customer who spends 4-6k on your product end up with a bike that's going to chew bottom brackets and creak like hell is not acceptable. They don't discover it until it's eaten the first bottom bracket...

Doing so while pushing marketing about your excellent engineering and manufacturing practices and how high quality your frames are is doubly bad.

His engineering insight was quite interesting but the abusive language is now boring and unnecessary, he seems to think he can call lots of people all sorts of names without comeback. He gets kicked off a few forums and claims it’s racism “because he’s brown” but fails to appreciate its because he’s spent hours creating a video slagging off their staff and customers...

He clearly has issues with the cycling industry and, seemingly, women in general referring to them as “token attractive women” but is going about it in all the wrong ways... if he wants to maintain any credibility, he needs to wind in the abuse and remain factual.

I don't really want to defend Hambini, but the "Token Attractive Woman" was actually a faux pas made by Cycling Weekly themselves, which is why he's pointing it out: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershi...
