My wife is thinking about using my son's Islabike (Beinn 26) now that he's out grown it.
She tried it for a few miles at the weekend and enjoyed her first bike ride in over 20 years but found the seat uncomfortable. (Surprise surprise)
And recommendations for a nice but inexpensive seat with a bit more padding..

While I'm on, anyone with a Beinn 29 for sale?

Thanks

As far as recommending a saddle without trying it, it's a total lottery. Same with men.

Women specific saddles will be the first place to start though.

Bear in mind they can take a bit of time to wear in. And if she hasn't done much riding it may be uncomfortable just down to that.

The mid-sized saddle from Lidl is excellent. Cost about €7. I have one.

I would imagine the equivalent from Aldi is pretty good too.

If you want a specialist ladies saddle then Terry is the brand, I think.

You can also get a gel cover to go onto the existing seat.

I'm a female rider and I have a bag of saddles - some cheap, some expensive. Finally think I've found a comfortable one from Decathlon. But it's so individual it's a case of trying and crossing fingers it's comfortable.

I would suggest tthat she buys a decent set of padded shorts. If she wants to avoid the roadie look she can wear ordinary shorts over, or get a pair of more casual riding shorts, which have the seams in the right places.

Avoid any gel covers, sorry. People often think a wider, plusher saddle is more comfortable but it is generally not, and these type tend to rub and place your weight in the wrong place.

This is a reasonable guide

One thing you really should do is get her saddle height correct. Too many people run their saddle too low, which is a bad idea for knees and arse.

Google is your friend but so long as she has a bend in her leg at full extension and her hips are not rocking, you're somewhere about right......then you can think about setting her saddle height.smile

She looks back a few decades to the shopper bike (I'm a little deaf and thought she said chopper at first) she had with a big padded saddle/seat.
