Any recommendations?

Birthday coming up and the missus is gonna get me a new pair for when/if this covid stuff passes us by.

Worth paying for brands like Altura, Fox, Bontrager etc or will the 'budget' options like Decathlon and Go Outdoors do?

Don't mind paying the money if they're going to last.

Thanks beer

The 'budget' options are ste.

I've had fantastic experience with Fox shorts. They're quite expensive but really well made, look good, and last for years! The material will actually start disintegrating long before the shorts fall apart!

Altura Hummvees

Black Camo coloured - they have been awesome. Needed a little bit of minor stichwork - but we are talking 6+ years of all season riding 2 or more times a week.

MTB shorts seem to be stupidly expensive and I hate paying £50 to £70 for shorts - but these have been great.

The Boardman ones with a padded lycra detachable inner are good value and mine have lasted well.

Ive got a pair of Enduro shorts. I cant remember what type, I'll have to check when they come out of the was, they got filthy and soaked on my hours exercise this afternoon. I dont do that many hours in the saddle, but they're about 3 years old and still look like new. I was on a budget when I bought my bike and they seemed like good value. They're knees length with 2 zipped pockets and cruicially on a day like today, a waterproofed bum panel.

Eta...Washing machine hadn't gone on yet so I checked what they were. They're MT500 spray shorts. They seem have been replaced the spray II now, and are about £50.

I have a couple of pairs of Endura shorts too, good value and quality. Think mine are the 'Trekkit' model - they have an integrated rather than removable liner, which is probably the main compromise that makes them less than half the cost of the Hummvee.

This (the Endura version wink )

I have a few pairs and they’re really very much better than the budget ones.

Another Endura user - though I’m a fan of the Singletrack shorts - have had about 6-7 pairs over the years, definitely worth the money and I use these for on and off road biking

I’m a fan of Dakine shorts but only when they’re in the sale. My Troy Lee stuff has always lasted well.

I have a couple of pairs of Maddison shorts which are excellent, and Polaris is also worth a look as their stuff is pretty good vfm. I have various shorts, t-shirts and LS jerseys from them.

Endura Humvees for me. I've got 3 x pairs and they're indestructible. I've been commuting in them on the bike (using the detachable inner, running in them and going to the gym in them for years.

One thing I would recommend is braces, nothing worse than getting your arse out over the back of the saddle, then catching the crotch of your shorts on the way back because they have slipped down from your svelte cyclist hips.
