For reasons I can't explain, ages ago I bought a Raleigh Equipe on a whim from gumtree or eBay or something. It was a tenner and nearby and it's a relic from the mid 80s. Mate had one when I was at school.

I've since begun restoring it. It's worth feck all. Today I'll be adding replacement decals to it and as the original seat was ripped but they're impossible to get anymore I've stripped the old one and ordered some vinyl in the right colour to reupholster it.

I cannot begin to stress how many house/garage/various motorbike/car jobs I have that need doing, but for some reason I'm working on this bloody thing.

I think I may be Pickle Rick-ing my way back through my mechanical skills from the ground up.

Early '80's Cornelo, as soon as I find some nice rims for it.

My Vitus 979 could do with some love as well, I have an old Shimano groupset to replace the rather too modern Campag gruppo it has on it at the present moment.

I have a thing for Colnago, I bought 1994 Master Olympic this as a frame last year built it up and rode it once before the worse weather set it.

Been changing a few bits over winter, not sure on the current stem though as it’s a bit too big in profile so something slimmer will need to be found.

I also have a Dream and another Master frame but that needs a new seat stay so deciding what to do with it.

Found this Vitus 979 at a brocante in France last year, and have recently finished it. Not ridden it yet, but if it’s anything like my last one, it will be a delight.

Re the Master that needs a new seat stay my advice would be - get it done.
A few years ago, the combination of red wine and eBay resulted in me being the proud owner of a Master Olympic frame with a curved and cracked top tube and corroded seat stays. After a spell at a local frame builders it returned looking a lot healthier. It’s been a delight to ride, and I just love it.

Nice work.

Yeh I know what you’re saying, just not sure I need 2 Masters at the same time, although when has rationale come into bike ownership hehe

Perhaps one with the modern build, and the other with a more retro build would help you justify it to yourself smile

Yeh I had it built up with Chorus 11 spd for about a year or so before the seat stay cracked.

I also have a Dream in the same colour scheme, although I switched the components over to the black and pink Master as shown above last summer so this is currently just a frameset.

Know its noting special but have a sentimental value Carerra Mirage in the garage that I need to pimp up. Its a mid 90s cromo rigid frame 26er MTB with cantilever brakes.

Side by side with my CX bikes the geometry looks very similar! Rear wheel and cassette has its own gravity field.

What a fantastic colour scheme that is. I didn’t know they did it on the Dream. I had a lovely Mapei Dream that developed a crack in the head tube. To say I was gutted is an understatement. Sold it for decorative use only.

Replacing the cracked seat stay should be relatively easy, but matching the paint might be a little more tricky. Well worth saving I would have thought.

Ah that’s annoying, I’ve seen a few crack there. The Dream is underrated in my opinion, nice punchy stiff frame that still rides really well.

Yeh I love the paint scheme, have never found its official Colnago code but it appears it might have been a Belgium dealer only scheme, I’ve seen it on a few Masters, Dream, Tecnos and a Superissimo.

I was on the lookout for an adult mountain bike 26” wheel for my 8 year old son who had outgrown his 20” wheel bike.
Rather than buying another kids bike, I thought I’d see if there were any interesting xs or small adult bikes suitable.
My son wanted a carbon fibre bike but Given that it will be knocked about I told him it wasn’t suitable, and they would also be too big, so I went searching.
Given that I was into MTBing as a teenager in the 90s, it was probably no surprise that I found this for sale.

I am aware the photo has the forks the wrong way round. It makes my teeth itch

However, on deliver this Buckshaver looked a little scabby so I took it to Six Four Frameworks and their painters have turned it to this (although i’ve not seen it in the flesh yet it does look bloody fantastic).

I’ve now become jealous so I ended up on the ‘bay and got myself this to refurbish

Will probably do a matching aquafade or possibly grello re-spray.

This was my pride and joy from my teenage years although I do keep thinking of replacing the magura brakes with perhaps some Paul Components items instead and possibly a purple Ringle

Finally, this is a more recent bike i’ve had for 19 years. Again, the brakes seem buggered so might replace them with something a little more modern

I've restored lots of bikes, mostly 80's stuff like Raleigh Bomber, Chopper, Strika, Grifter, Kuwahara ET to name a few. I stumbled on a Raleigh Arena the other month, bought for £20, new tyres, tubes, cables & chain, so all in about £80. Its probably worth about what i spent but its worth doing.
