Hello all, I am hoping the PH collective can offer some guidance.

My wife is interested in doing some spinning at home and loves the idea of Peloton.

I am freshly into cycling and have definitely been bitten hard by the bug! If we are going to be sinking that sort of money into something like Peloton, I would want to be able to use it as a cycle trainer, do virtual races etc. I don't think this is something Peloton can do?

Is there something out there that will do "Spinning" and "Training" A turbo trainer is out of the question as my wife wouldn't want to mess around taking wheels off and bringing bikes indoors and to be honest, i don't think i could either!

Sounds like you need a Wattbike Atom although cycling forums state delivery is currently running at epic levels of delay.

Ive had mine for a year and wish Id done it sooner, when I ordered it was offered on sale or return so no liability if you hate it

Peleton has very slick marketing but the bike costs a fortune and similarly the subscription
I believe you are also locked into their online package and cant use it with other platforms like Zwift, Trainerroad, Sufferfest etc etc

And they have also been a bit heavy handed with trademarks believing they own the word 'Peleton' which is hard to swallow - see GP Lama for details

There are a decent number of workouts and programs on the Wattbike Hub for free although I have taken a Zwift subscription which adds a bit of cheesy reality to things. Zwift gets panned by 'serious' cyclists but in all honesty I dont know why. Trainerroad is what the dull roadie types use however I took a free trial and just found it dull. I have chewed through several prescribed fitness programs and you can also race on Zwift however are probably at the mercy of cheats who are economical with the truth about their weight - its good fun though.

The annoying thing with Zwift is that the login is specific to one person, I wish they'd mirror Spotify and do a family sub for a little more but hey its their party. In reality its not a biggie, your wife in theory could follow a free wattbike program on her phone whilst running Zwift in freeride mode on the ipad to get a bit of scenery but Im sure no-one has ever thought of that smile

Im definitely a fan. This winter has been crap but when I do get the chance to ride my bike outside with the club Im still pretty handy despite the lack of miles. And now we have COVID lockdown Ive noticed when you log in the number Zwifting worldwide at any one time has risen from 4-5,000 people to 15-20,000

Any more questions - please ask

Cheers

EDIT - just looked at Peloton website. The bike costs less than I thought - poss been reduced - however the subscription is still £40/month.

Trouble with peloton the resistance is adjusted by hand and that’s not good enough for me anyway.

Speaking of Wattbike Atoms.

They were selling for £1300-1600 a week ago.

All the ones listed in the last couple of days on eBay have been in the £2300-3000 range.
