My rear tyre is getting a tad battered after plenty of clipping rocks etc and I have a handy voucher from a bike shop, so I'm thinking it might be a good excuse to try a change from the factory 2.3 DHF/DHR2 combo - maybe something a bit faster rolling for the rear like an Aggressor or Dissector.

I've never had anything wider than 2.3" tyres on a bike, but fatter ones seem more popular these days and from tests I've read they actually have less rolling resistance too unless you're on roads (where I don't ride often at all).

Bike is a Trance 29 so a relatively short travel (130/115) 29er. I've read that the largest it will comfortably fit on the rear is a 2.5 and it has 30mm wide rims, so a 2.5 or 2.4 WT might be worth trying out.

How does the riding feel / bike handling compare between 2.3 and 2.5, significant or not? Good or bad? Worth the extra tyre weight?

I imagine I will be able to run lower pressures with higher volume, which might assist the short travel in soaking up chunky stuff - but I wouldn't want to lose the playful responsive feel of the bike.

Good Questions, tyres are always about personal preference/riding style/riding surface.
I have a 29er running 2.6 DHF front and a discetor rear which is good for most loose surfaces but when I want to get fast rolling i Like a Minion SS on the rear and a HR2 front.
I just bought a bargain 2.6 ikon for the rear that should be good for spring in the local area.
I used to like Ardents for dry fast XC days, good weight to grip ratio.
