Hi folks as per the title looking for opinions on an upgrade shock for my YT Jeffsy CF1.

Currently the bike has the Monarch RT3 230 x 60 shock on it although I've not been overly impressed and had a few issues with it.

I noticed that chain reaction have a good deal on the RockShox Super Deluxe RC3 just now so.that could be an option.

Alternatively I have been offered a Fox Float DPS elite by a mate but I'm not clued up on fox stuff.

I did look at DVO Topaz but was told to stay clear as a pain to service and get parts for apparently.

Any suggestions help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I’ve had good experiences with Fox. The coil shock on my (10 year old) DH bike is plush and smooth. Also servicing and parts is easy, have mine done at TFTuned. Not cheap, but brilliant customer service.

Surely your first port of call is sending it off to J-Tech, TF, or Fin or somebody like that to have it turned for the bike and your riding style? That will be worth so much more than just bolting in another shock that isn’t tuned for your bike?

Interesting point hadn't thought of this, I have had the unit rebuilt and serviced but not looked into tuning.

What is it about the shock you don’t like? I’ve got a Deluxe RT with minimal external tuning ability on a 2019 Reign and I think it’s great because it tuned for the frame (generically) and the only thing I’d swap it for is a cool shock because I prefer how they feel compared to air.

It's a Monarch RT3 that's on it

I’m not a fan of the Monarch. I had one on my Transition Scout and the bike felt loads better when I replaced it for a Fox coil.

I’ve got a Fox Float X2 on my Intense and it’s probably the best air shock I’ve ridden. Not cheap though.

Is the Monarch pre-Debonair? Certainly worth asking one of the tuners if they think they could assist, a basic shock with the right tune is much better than a multi-adjust one on the wrong setting.
Otherwise get a coil.

Definitely this. Have a look at what Vorsprung (Tractive valve) can do for you, via someone like TFT.

I have their luftkappe neg air-spring in a converted Pike and it is a massive massive improvement over stock - amazing small bump, holds up well, and no tokens needed despite being a heavy rider. Steve really know his onions when it comes to MTB spring and damper design.

In comparison, I also have the 2020 pike on a new bike. It's garbage in comparison.

I'd also look at borrowing a shockwhiz if you're not familiar with suspension design. Takes a lot of the guesswork out of set-up.

I have a dvo topaz and it’s a lovely thing. One of the reasons I got it was specifically because it’s extremely easy to service and tune. You can even add volume spacers on the trail if you are so inclined. Lovely thing and a serious upgrade to my Rockshox deluxe rt that was there before.

I’ve also found dvo customer service to be excellent, they were very helpful when I was looking to buy and have been great with m6 tuning questions since. I think a lot of the negativity comes from shops who only know how to deal with Rockshox and Fox gear.
