Sounds like you've had a similar expereince to me... Last Sunday a driver of a Bentley GT got annoyed because I filtered past him... 30 seocnds later the puhishment pass came of a short stretch of dual carraigeway; he followed this up with blocking me in on the next roundabout, got out of the car waving his fists; threatened to kick my f**kin head in, snatched my bike and through it into a ditch. Luckily another motorist stopped and had dash cam footage of him getting out of his car and attacking me. The police now have this footage and at the very least he will be interviewed...

After a lot of consideration, I ordered one of these yesterday:

https://driftinnovation.com/products/ghost-x

It hasn't arrived yet so i'll post up a review once I have used it a few times. The main reasons I chose this camera are:

  1. its light(ish)
  2. battery life (over 4 hours claimed)
  3. I can mount it under my Garmin using an adapter.
The Olfi white also looked like a very good camera but I would have needed to carry a spare battery.

I also considered the Cycliq Fly-6 rear light camera, but someone on here informed me that the Fly12 is great but the Fly-6 has been unreliable....

Reviews aren't too amazing on Amazon for the Ghost X so will be interesting to hear how you get on. At least it has long battery life.

I know previous drift cameras had 2-5s gap between files. Crazy.

Having tried the Ghost-X I am quite pleased. There is no gap between files and the picture is clear. I took the camera on a 3 hour ride earlier and the battery still has plenty of charge left. The image stabilisation is also acceptable.

Setup is relatively straight forwards and I used the iPhone app to configure it.

Before I ordered the camera I emailed Drift about an adapter that would allow mounting of the camera using a go-pro attachment. I ordered the attachment along with the camera but it is far from great, as supplied the plastic "teeth" are too wide to fit any standard Go-Pro accessories. I had to modify ithe attachment/adapter with a Dremmel and a Stanley knife in order to get it to fit with any of the Go-Pro accessories that I already own,

The Ghost-X gave up after the first ride and refused to charge... Despite me reporting the issue within 5 days of receiving the camera and sending the camera back special delivery they made it very difficult to get a refund. In the end I raised a PayPal dispute (which I also had to escalate) and eventually PayPal issued me with a full refund.

I am still without a suitable camera. I have tried the Cycliq fly 12 but the I returned it unused .... the mount looked and felt like it had come out of a Christmas cracker and the camera weighs almost as much as my bike.

Haven't found a better camera than the original Garmin Virb Elite, battery life is good an video quality is decent enough for general riding.

I use the following when out on my road bike, Shimano on the back (it's a nice camera but picture quality isn't great) Virb on the front and Gopro Session on the helmet if I'm wearing one.

Size comparison with 21750 flashlight battery, the Virb is quite bulky but when mounted low on the bars it's not that noticeable.

Another fan of the Go-Pro Session (5 is better than 4).

To give an idea of quality heres a couple of vids from rides a few years back - keep in mind YouTube quality is reduced due to compression (where possible view in highest resolution if your pc permits).

I initially had a Garmin Virb Elite but find the session a much better size and far less obtrusive. Another of my videos for an idea of the Gamins quality (rear camera):

Main downside of the Session is that you will only get about an hours continuos recording and it has a built in battery so no good for longer rides if you want full coverage.

I don't use any of mine as a dash cam - mainly just for videos.

last week I decided to try The Olfi One-Five -

It Looks good

battery Life is as expected

BUT

Image quality is crap - it is not possible to read a car registration plate because the image is so blurred. Not sure if I have a faulty one or if it is because the "Image Stabilisation" has little to no affect.

I also use a ghost x. I did take it back to the dealer where I purchased as after 6 months it was either on : off : permanently on : permanently off or a combination of camera recordings of anything between 10 sec and 10 minutes. It would also lose my saved settings. The girl in the shop advised I do a software update before returning it as hers was the same. The update has solved all problems , it also now records seamlessly. I use it in the car hanging from the rear view mirror using a camera clamp, on the bike I hang it under the bars. I use the app to check the horizon level before setting off and also use zoom feature to get the screen pillars out of view before setting off , then press record and leave it to do its thing. I’ve not had a single problem the last 3 months , I use it every day. I’ve never used a go-pro so I can’t compare but I’m happy with the picture quality I get to watch esp in hdr mode. Settings are easy to navigate through the app.
