Im wanting a new front light for my bike for road riding & commuting, I'm currently using a cheap 35000LM Cree eBay jobbie which is extremely bright but only lasts about an hour. Battery is temperamental and sometimes fails completely, I'm on my third one now. It also cuts out without notice, so I'd like one with a battery level indicator.

I like the Magicshine lights with their remote on/off switch to mount on the handlebars, but they are very expensive.

Any suggestions please?

For commuting - mix of lit and unlit roads, I use and Exposure Sirius.

Really very good, completely worth the spend.

I have a knot which has programmable settings

Cost isn’t my most important consideration when considering lights, being seen is.

I have a 350 lumens FWE brand light from Evans, mostly lit roads and shared paths. It’s been good vale and is well made. When it finally dies I’ll replace it with the same

When my 'decent' front light (that I use for off road MTB night rides) failed, I bought a Nestling light from Amazon as a temporary replacement - £18.

That was about 6 weeks ago and I'm still using it as it is actually quite good. 3 settings - medium setting is OK for most off road night rides. My usual night rides are max 1.5 hours only, but battery still has half charge left.

If you don't mind a separate battery pack (which does mean if it fails the whole lot doesn't have to be changed), then I recommend

I use an old V2 light - battery on the medium setting runs for about 4 days (so 8 hours) commuting. Low warning via the light which will step down on settings to get you home

I buy the Aldi Lezyne copies. 20 quid for a moth burner and a rear light as well, total bargain.

I'm very pleased with this 1200 lumen job https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUOPRO-Headlight-Recharge... I've had it for two winters with a regular weekly urban/rural trip involving 30 mins flash then 90 mins high or medium brightness. Separate battery pack is a little more faff but makes for a more durable unit imo.

Previously I had a far more expensive Knog Arc Blinder. Not as bright and struggled with the same journey. Battery ceased to hold proper charge within 3 years. Biggest snag was that the rubber strap wasn't up to holdingthe weight of an integrated light + battery onto the bars. The light tended to slip on minor jolts and eventually cracked and split. Replacement strap cost as much as the Amazon unit. (Btw, tail lamp that comes with the Amazon unit is a feeble waste of space - I use a Moon Nebula at the rear.)
