What Trail MTB £2k ish
Discussion
Hi, been mulling over a bike purchase for a while. No rush. Specifically for trails like swinley or Surrey hills. Maybe taking things further later down the line
Budget of circa £2k what would you consider? New or last years. 27.5 size L.
I narrowed down to two (I know the budgets gone out the window here) but opinions on both would be much appreciated or other suggestions, especially if we were in a situation where both cost the same to rule out price.
Stumpjumper carbon comp 2019 in chameleon. £3k - I would if it was really worth it
2020 Whyte T 130 S (non fox suspension based versions are the ones to have apparently). £2500ish. 15% off this at Rutlands currently so may pull the trigger on this
Thanks

I rode my 2019 t130s at Swinley last week but I’ve had it a year and aside a couple months off with a broken collarbone (motorbike related) and a month away in the summer I’ve ridden it most weekends.
Great bike but as you now know I’m biased!
Good spec for price, the 1x12 was easy to transfer to.
You won’t be disappointed it’s a comfortable ride, I’m happy to do 30 miles xc on it and going down hill it’s fairly rapid and comfortable compared to my 26” Marin rift zone.

I bought my 10 year old one to replace a stolen 24" wheel FS bike.
Compared to whytes of old, the build quality, geo, and component specs are about as good as you'll get from bikeshop supplied bike.
Superb value for money.
OP, having said that, look on pink bike and go second hand. Lots of very very high end boutique bikes around 12 months old and hardly ridden for a fraction of their new retail.

If you are ready to buy right now, there are big discounts on this years YT Jeffsy 27 but they will go fairly quick.
I am biased, but one more for your shortlist.
+1I am biased, but one more for your shortlist.
The YT Jeffsy CF Pro has a better spec than the Whyte, and a carbon frame. £2600 currently. Next years models are due in January, but the frame won't be changing, just the spec. L and bigger sizes still in stock...
I am biased too, owning a 29 CF Pro Race Jeffsy.

A mate has just bought a Specialised Chisel, for £1400. It's a hard tail, I hadn't heard of it, so I thought "meh".
Then I picked it up, hmm, feels light. We got the scales out, 11.3 kg. Wow! Then I read reviews, and I would love to try one!
Possibly not the right bike for you but if you aren't doing massive jumps, it would seem a good place to start.

I was considering one but think I should get a FS bike. The 2019 Chisel Comp x1 is a grand and has the same frame but butter forks and 11 speed SLXThen I picked it up, hmm, feels light. We got the scales out, 11.3 kg. Wow! Then I read reviews, and I would love to try one!
