MTB grip recommendations?
Discussion
Planning to try some new grips for the Trance as I'm not getting on with the standard ones, I've been getting some hand pump/numbness which I haven't had on other bikes. Bike setup and wrist angle feels ok so I figure grips is first thing to try changing - subjectively they feel too thin for my paws and too squidgy in texture so I suspect thats a factor, having hands closed too tight while riding.
Any suggestions to try?
DMR Deathgrips and Ergon grips seem to be among the best reviewed, do they live up to the hype? With black friday prices (even if the best deals are usually in funny colours) I'm tempted to get a pair of each and try both.

In a moment of remarkable common sense I've just swapped the standard Specialized grips from my Epic (which I'm planning to sell but haven't yet) over to the Trance to test next ride, and done some measuring while I was at it.
Factory Trance grips: ~29mm Ø (but the squishy tread easily compresses, probably only 27mm when squeezed)
Budget Lifeline grips I had lying around: ~29mm Ø, rock hard rubber that doesn't squish at all (or absorb any vibration for that matter, I tried them for yesterday's ride. Better grip but only marginal improvement in hand pump/numbness)
Factory Epic grips which never gave me any trouble, though I didn't find the texture that nice without gloves: ~31.5mm Ø
So there is quite a difference in measured diameter as well as feel.

ODi Rogues for trail riding - slighty larger diameter than most which is great when you get used to them (if you have average or large hands)Great grip / quite soft - but wears well with gloves on.
or.. Superstar Grinders
Ideal for winter riding - like last night for instance.. I think these are great for riding in the cold because even when you hands go numb you can still feel the grip / knobbles!.. great choice of colours too.
Although a quick look on Superstar's site seems to show them all out of stock Although they have many other styles.

I’ve found Ergon GE1 grips do live up to the hype. I’ve not used anything else as good.
I bought some of these for my new Pole MTB and I just cannot get on with them. Wrist ache after 10 minutes of riding. I think diameter is the key - I'm 6'5" so always tend to go for the fatter grips and I'm wondering whether these are just too thin. Could be stretched out riding position though - need to swap my grips over to the fatter raceface ones I have.Steamer said:

Those ODIs are good. Or try the silicon/foam type grips... https://www.rutlandcycling.com/accessories/finishi...I used to have ODIs and they were great, but when looking for replacements at a local shop they were out of stock, but an Aussie working there recommended those Bontrager silicone grips as a stop-gap. They're cheap enough, and really, really comfortable. You can stretch them thin, or bunch them up a bit so they're a little "fatter" on the bars too, within reason. Since fitting them I haven't been at all bothered about finding nice lock-on grips. They're comfortable enough that I don't think about them while riding...
