Okay, technically not pedal powered, but I think this is the right place.

My kids have wrecked their folding scooters doing jumps at the local skate park, so it's time to get them proper stunt scooters.

I have zero knowledge in this area, but don't feel like fixing them every weekend, so robustness is the key consideration, with cost coming in a very close second.

This was recommended by a Mum at the skate park, and £100 is the top of the budget really. I doubt these things hold their value like an IslaBike.

Open to suggestions...

Blunt ,MGP, Dogg & Kota are good brands with £100 being entry price for anything that will last (but it does depend on your children's ages and size)

Wheels are consumables, as can be handlebars depending on the tricks!
My son runs a Lucky Deck, YGW Titanium bars, Elite clamp & forks - much pocket money spent - you could buy a decent bike for the price of that list (it adds up to over £600!!!)

For some ideas

PS Edited to add Dogg Scooters are based in Paignton which is your neck of the woods I think

My advise it don't follow that Mum's advise.

Make sure any scooter you look at has an integrated headset rather than the threaded type on the one in the link. I made that mistake on my lad's and it won't whip anywhere near as smooth as his friends with integrated and I spend my whole time adjusting it.

I had great service from Skatehut though, so recommend them. https://www.skatehut.co.uk/scooters

Thank you both.

The headset advice makes sense, that's the bit he's knackered on his current scooter.

Current ideas from the links are:

https://www.skatehut.co.uk/scooters/scooter-2/nitr...

https://www.doggscooters.com/uk/index.php?main_pag...

And the budget busting:

https://jmtboardrooms.co.uk/flavor-awakening-v2-co...

I feel it might be a good idea to go into a local shop and strike up a conversation. (Taking my kids height and weight with me.)

Any comments on the above ideas would be useful so I can go in vaguely informed.

Thanks again!

Don't worry about the mega super-duper scooters, I think they're only really relevant if they are already proficient at all the stunts and want to move up to the next level.

Try and get your lad along with you to ensure you get the right height bars and whatnot.

Halfords actually do some mongoose branded ones which seem pretty good.

Thank you for all of your post, but you did get me thinking and looking. This seems to be the best mongoose at Halfords, and has the integrated headset mentioned earlier.

What is the collective wisdom on this, since I think I can get a good bit more of this with recent discount codes and such like...

Will it be robust enough?

Our toddler has a micro mini.

Its not a stunt one by any stretch, with three wheels and lean to steer. It is nicely put together. We were looking at second hand, but they were making £40 and looked pretty shabby, we found a new one on special offer for £80 delivered.

She won't be flinging it round the park, and I would say micro possibly aren't the brand for this, but it is nicely made, and if she gets three years use and I get half the money back I'll be very happy.

As above, wouldn't bother with the MiniMicro one.

We got this one for my lad last Christmas, he was 7 then but he's tall: https://www.skatehut.co.uk/brands/madd-gear-pro/mg...

Really had little clue as to what's good and what wasn't back then but subsequently in my new hobby of hanging around skate parks on a weekend see loads of kids riding these so they must be good. My son is pleased with it.

A mini thread resurrection. Can anyone recommend a scooter? I'#ve look at previous suggestions in this thread.

From what I understand 110mm wheel and integrated headset are ideal. Can anyone recommend a bargain?

Budget is limited to £100 each and they will be using them mainly for blasting round the streets (subject to lockdown) rather than spending too much time at skate parks (hence 110mm wheel rather than 100mm).

Candidates so far...

https://www.skatehut.co.uk/scooters/stunt-scooters...
https://www.skates.co.uk/blazer-pro-nexus-complete... (£100)

https://jmtboardrooms.co.uk/nitro-circus-ryan-will...

https://www.skatehut.co.uk/scooters/stunt-scooters...
https://www.skatehut.co.uk/scooters/stunt-scooters...

Anything else to consider? Anything cheaper? Budget is already stretched. Kids are 1.3m and 1.45m tall if that makes much difference.

We ended up with one of these:

https://www.halfords.com/scooters/stunt-scooters/m...

It feels quite heavy or solid, depending if you're a glass half full / empty kind of person. It was standing up to a 7 year old's abuse well until the skate park was locked.

Cheers. Good to hear he is enjoying it. I was spending too much time at the skate park getting bored and ended up buying myself a skateboard! I was rubbish on one when I was 13, 30+ years later I am significantly worse!

All the stunt scooters seem to weigh a lot compared to the jdbug scooters we have at the moment. Anyway, I've ordered a couple now. I ended up getting two different ones which is bound to cause issues!

Fingers crossed they turn up on time!

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Our lad is 8 next month, he's currently got a three wheeler scooter but he wants the kudos of two wheels.

Major issue is that we often go out and about with him on it, might jump on a train to London etc, so need a foldie, which somewhat limits the market.

Based on some online reviews I'm going to go for a J D Bug job, has any PHers offsping run one of these? Good or bad experience ?

I should add that he's not going to be doing loads of stunts on it, but it seems a good transitional model before a full stunt scooter when he's a bit older.

Anything that folds will not be suitable for any stunts (visits to skate parks). You will likely need 2, one for folding general use, one for skate parks. If buying a stunt scooter then mad gear pro (MGP) are very common and also fairly hard wearing and can be found second hand easily enough for very little as most people progress to skate boards at some point.
