As the title really. Fancy a day of Mountain biking, and google isn't being that helpful.

Would need to hire a bike, which limits options.

Any suggestions within about an hour of Sheffield?

Can you hire bikes?

Don't know about the Dirt place, but sherwood pines you can. I would go to cannock chase and hire an ebike if it was me. Indoor bike parks are boring, better for Bmx. Have you got a MTB?

No just a road bike, I don't do enough MTB to justify buying a bike at the moment.

Are you looking for undoor and outdoor. Outdoor you can hire from 25-50 quid. Sounds a lot but worth it. I personally would just a 2nd hand for 200-300 quid and if you don't like itt sell it on.

Yes outdoor. I've done some proper hills, had a few weeks in Morzine and Les Gets but not been on a mountain bike for atleast 5 years.

Cannock chase looks a good option, if a little flat?

Not really but it is fun and each section can take a breather if needed.

Sherwood pines is fairly flat.

Leeds Urban Bike Park is the place for you. I haven’t managed to make it over there myself yet but it has something for everyone from tracks for young kids up to some pretty serious technical stuff, but the red trail should be ideal for you. It gets amazing feedback across the board, and they hire out bikes too.

Speak to James at The Bike Garage - Bamford, Peak District. Top chap - quality bike shop.

The Peak is one massive Mountain Bike Park - you can hire a MTB or EMTB along with route maps.

No option to borrow a mate’s bike and take it up Parkwood Springs?

Leeds urban bike park is good fun, I've been there a couple of times.

Quite a lot of variety from nice sculpted pump tracks and BMX tracks, to some decent sized jumps and technical features all connected by well made single track through the woods.

It's a relatively small place which is good because you're never that far from the carpark and cafe, but does mean it's more of a half day kinda place, unless you are happy doing the same things a few times each.

Oh and don't be put off by it being an 'urban' bike park. It's not really, it's a big bit of park and woodland in the suburbs of Leeds and doesn't feel particularly urban when you're there.

I don’t Mtb very much myself but Sheffield’s got loads of places to ride a mtb on dedicated tracks.

Wharncliffe woods
Parkwood Springs
Lady Cannings Plantation
Those are all proper mtb trails (admittedly not very extensive), but Fairholmes at Derwent Reservoir hires bikes and there’s always dozens of bikers heading up the trails around Derwent and Howden. You’ll have to share trails with walkers and runners but there are loads of tracks up the sides of the valley.

I quite often see mtb riders up on the track between cutthroat bridge and Derwent edge, and around Castleton (but not sure what trails there are around Castleton).

Also there are some trails off Snake Pass between Labybower and Doctors Gate.

It's a shame there isn't somewhere in town to hire a bike because Sheffield has got be about the best city in the UK for mountain biking. I'm pretty sure you can hire bikes from the Ladybower visitor centre though, there is a mix of tame and tough trails from there. Tame would be the loop around the reservoirs (you could just about do that on your road bike) or a more 'mountainy' route could be a loop of the Cut Gate path.

Looking more at the mountain side, bit of adrenaline and trails my bike wouldn't get anywhere near.

The Viewranger app and website are brilliant for finding routes, you can also buy OS map overlays for the app too.

I'd be tempted to hire an E-bike (just because I fancy trying one) from the Trek store at Fox Valley in Stocksbridge and doing the cutgate route from langsett reservoir over to derwent and back.

Cutgate is one of the best bits of natural single track in England, worth doing before it gets really wet and boggy with the winter weather.
