Just been out for a ride on my bike only to haven of my pedals break, on a fairly remote hilltop, 20 miles from home.

Trying to work out options, a BMW 3-Series pulled alongside to see if I was OK, before driver got out to help. Fashioned a basic fix with some black tape and went on his way.... only noticed a PH sticker on his rear window as he pulled away.

Thank you!! Saved me a slow ride home.

He'll be required to return that sticker by the Inquisition!

Maybe he's already been hunted down and 'restricted'.....?

I was riding up a hill close the the Cat and Fiddle during the summer. It was a narrow single track road, very steep! I was labouring up it when an S3, (blacked out windows and full of youngish lads) appeared at the top of the hill. I though 'bugger'. I'll be forced off into the verge.

But no, he moved right over and as we passed the whole car clapped and shouted encouragement to me.

SO outside of PH, most people are decent and just want to get along biggrin

I'd just like to add that I sailed through every red light on the way home, just to maintain the generally held prejudices tongue out

I spend a lot of time riding that way, I don't think I have ever had discourteous driving, it really is as much a misnomer as the 'all cyclists are ****s' rhetoric. Indeed, on the decent, I often get vans and wagons sticking behind me as they a) can't go as fast, and b) offer to protect me as a vulnerable road user.

2 weekends ago, I rode the 230 miles from London to Manchester in one day for charity. 120 set off, 68 finished. It took me 13hrs 1min, for some others it took well over 16hrs. Number of road incidents.....none. Zero.

No aggression, no ahole driving, no selfish riding, no red lights run.... The closest we had was a young lad in a Saxo that pulled out not leaving enough room causing us to slam on. He then got out at the next set of lights and apologised before wishing us luck in disbelief at what we were doing.

There's one of two I can think of that hill could be, and you're nuts for doing either of them hehe

Don’t know the name of the road. It’s past Lamaload Reservoir up to the Cat and Fiddle road and on strava, the segment is called Big Dogs Climb I think!

Fair play that's a very grown up attitude.

I've made a mental note to encourage some cyclists next time I pass one on my bike

We do appreciate it.

And I like hearing a good car open the taps when being passed (with a decent gap) as well!

I was out today in my PH cycling jersey, and a passing AMG Mercedes gave it "what for" as they passed me. Had it from a Porsche 911 the other day too. Plenty of space as they passed, then give it the beans.

When cycling solo, I often chose my PH jersey over my club one as I hope people will realise I am a fellow car enthusiast and make room for me.

Then I remember most cars aren’t operated by drivers merely car users who couldn’t give a fk about any other road user, cyclist, motorcyclist or driver.

Alright smarty pants. I rolled over the line at addlington at 1820hrs. I was last 10-ish. I bonked at the start of the Monsal trail. :-)

No incidents either.. including cat and fiddle in blinding torrential rain + gales.

For me, it's always coming out of Manchester, it takes until Poynton for people to stop being d**ks. Started now driving out to Poynton istead.

I think attitudes to cyclists are regional. Where I am, get the odd bit of abuse, but people cant pass for st.

I was out on my P3 once and at a junction some yobbos on a stty fiesta pulled up and shouted get a car. I looked at the car and then told them my bike was worth at least double what their car is. That shut them up.

That climb is a bh, it’s up there with the one from Jenkins Chapel to Pyms Chair, or Blaze Hill.

When I do that climb, it’s normally after the Wizard or Swiss Hill and Blaze Hill.

When I’ve pedalled from Warrington way where it is flat as a witch’s t*t, I make the most of the hills.
