Im looking for a hard tail, have found a sale on orange clockwork Evo s bikes
29 inch - https://www.orangebikes.co.uk/bikes/clockwork-evo-...
27.5 inch - https://www.orangebikes.co.uk/bikes/clockwork-evo-...
in the colours shown
i just dont know if i want 29 inch wheels ?
help me decide
29er will be slower to accelerate, and less agile.
29er will be faster once up to speed, more momentum. Will roll over rough stuff better. You might catch your arse on the tyre if you get right back over the rear wheel.
27 will be slower over rough stuff, but more agile, playful and faster to accelerate.
Both are good, choose what you prefer.
For me, I preferred 27.5 bikes due to the agile nature and fast acceleration. However my next bike is a 29er as its as agile, if not more, than my current 27.5 and is bloody fast as a good 29er should be, so no downsides.

I still have a 26 er hardtail as my only mtb. I tried a 29 er once on my local trails (South Downs) and to me the only advantage of the bigger wheels was downhill; the bigger wheels dealt with the rougher stuff better. Trouble is, downhill speed was fine anyway, but generally it felt less agile and took more effort to change direction.
I think 27.5 might be a better compromise between the two wheel sizes.

Nice bikes. When I was in urgent need of a new bike (I'd entered a race and was embarrassingly "caught between bikes") I had the 27.5" version high on my shortlist. But sadly, it was late in the season and I couldn't source one to fit. So I tried again with a Bird Zero, and had the same issue - no complete bikes in my size. I ended up with a 27.5" Giant Anthem full sus.
Caveat: At 5'6" tall, I struggle with the proportions of a 29" bike. And Trek do a graduated wheel size thing on their bikes, where 29" wheels aren't available on smaller frame sizes because they reckon big wheels/small frames just don't work together. So from a comparison point of view I can't help as I haven't ridden many 29ers and never back-to-back with the equivalent 27.5" bike.

When I made the move from 26inch wheeled bikes five years or so ago, I backed 27.5 because it was the closest to 26inch and at the time 29er geo was a bit squiffy.
It feels like I backed the wrong horse now because there are some fab handling 29ers. Anecdotally, they carry a lot more speed than a smaller wheeled bike - a friend rides 29ers and if we stop pedalling at the same time, his bike just pulls away from mine.
If you can fit / get comfy in a 29er, I'd go that way personally.

That’s tricky for me, I guess it’s not going to be doing anything particularly hardcore and therefore the lack of arse-wheel clearance of the 29 won’t be an issue?
Myself I prefer a 27.5 for the riding I do. I have a 2017 Orange Crush Pro and I can 100% vouch for the brand, it’s a lovely bike. My mates have fancy things like Production Privees, Mondraker foxy carbon XRs and Santa Cruz 5010’s and they all think the Orange is up there with the best.
