Hello. I've decided to bite the bullet and go for a professional bike fit - largely to try to resolve residual knee niggles following surgery. Ideally in Surrey area or possibly London. The outfits that looked promising include:

http://www.ten-point.co.uk/bikes/bike-fitting/ 10point supplied my Infinity saddle to eliminate saddle sores. GURU system looks hi-tech and there's the advantage that they have a huge database of frames so can recommend a well-fitting bike should I upgrade soon. They train other shops in the GURU system. But in talking to them they appear too dogmatic - eg Speedplays are the only pedals suitable for poor knees (not what my surgeon said!), I should be on 145-150mm cranks, aerobars on a road bike are a complete no-no. Maybe there's some truth in all this but i'd prefer someone who listens!

http://www.plsmith.co.uk/bike-fit Paul L Smith operates from an ordinary-looking bike shop in Redhill. However, he sounds experienced and has good testimonials. What puts me off is his focus on knee-over-pedal-spindle which I'm sure is good for healthy knees but not necessarily for my anterior knee pain.

https://www.surreyhillscycleworks.co.uk/bikefit/ Looks comprehensive and uses Retul jig for fine-tuning.

https://www.sigmasports.com/bike-fitting Technicians are well-qualified and seem to use the GURU system. At the pricier end; might try to upsell saddle, pedals etc.

https://www.wyndymilla.com/pages/fitting David Barnes Page looks to have good experience and qualifications. I think they were recommended in a Bike Radar or Cycling Weekly article. No doubt they'll try to sell me a beautiful custom-made carbon frame but I expect i can resist that for now!

For now I'm edging towards WyndyMilla but would welcome any feedback on the above or indeed any other recommendations in this area. Maybe I'm over-analysing and they're all much of a sameness?

What made you come to that assumption?

I can recommend these guys highly: http://vankru.com/

Slightly outside your search area of Surrey/ London as based in Hampshire but not far from the M3. I was very impressed even with the basic bike fit (2 hours), they are very much the go to place in our area.

No solid reason - probably I'm just reading too much into their website which talks a bit about custom footbeds, saddle pressure mapping etc. Partly that's why I'm looking for feedback - I have an irrational concern that a bike fitter, especially tied to a shop, will find so much wrong with my set-up that he says the only option is to throw it out and start again, from the frame up!

I know Jake from my local LBS, set up on his own and races a bit himself. Not had a fit by him but I think he did most of the fits whilst at PedalHeaven.
