A friend of mine has asked me what I think about this bike:

https://m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/5003869174...

It looks to me like a 2015/2016 spec model and the current equivalent is about £4000. However considering the discounts you get on last year’s spec, I’m thinking this looks a bit pricey being that old and second hand.

My thoughts were that it might be a good buy at more like £1200-1300 but I must admit I don’t have much experience of second hand prices.

Any thoughts or input welcome. Is it worth what they’re asking or should I tell her to haggle hard and be prepared to walk away if they won’t shift on price?

If it is in excellent, very lightly used condition and as it has the Di2 groupset, it isn't terrible value at that asking price really

And the seller will, of course, be open to a negotation

Keep in mind that it is possible to spend a lot of time looking at used bikes before finding an excellent one

If that one is local and it is her size etc. it has to be worth a look

There might be a similar one for sale next week at £1000. Or there might not be one in her size available for 5 months - hard to say

Thanks for your thoughts. It is very local and the right size so worth half an hour to pop along and have a look at it. As you say, it’s if it’s in great nick, it’s a lot of bike for the money, especially compared to what you could buy new.

Just so long as it doesn’t make her faster than me on our next ride!

I've got a 2019 Ruby Comp so hopefully I can help, bought as a long distance training bike and it does the job really well, disc brakes are superb and really nice ride, but it depends what you want to do with it, not a race bike feel I ride timetrials so don't need an aero road bike but wanted a comfortable ride for long training runs but doesn't feel as lively as my old Giant TCR also wheels are low spec and heavy for price of bike and I will upgrade mine for next year. Di2 I can take or leave fantastic on a TT bike and wouldn't be without it but on a road bike not sure it is that much better than top end mechanical.
Depends what you want the bike for , if you want a nice comfortable ride for long distance miles it is a superb bike and that price seems very good, but if you want an agressive race machine it is probably not the right bike for you.

Thanks Helen, that’s really helpful. She’s certainly not looking for anything too racy so it sounds like it should fulfil the brief perfectly.
