Carrera Vendetta or other options...

My son, 14, has seen a Carrera Vendetta that he likes as a new MTB for road and trail use.

Has anyone got any views on whether they are any good, or any other suggestions?

Budget is up to ~£400.

People can be a bit snobby about Carrera, but the one I had (Fury) was a bargain for what it was (there was a deal with 30% off). I've actually just bought a Carrera road bike, although pretty much everything on it has it been replaced (not necessarily for the better).

My Fury was really good and only sold it as I wanted a full suspension bike and I got a Calibre Bossnut. While the Carreras are bargains, I'd say Calibre are more of a bargain and a better bike, so I'd have a look at their range.

I've just got my gf a Saracen Tuftrax for her birthday, she's only 5ft so a mens size 13 frame fits her. 2019 model, RRP £375 from my local shop Biketart £285. I've bought both my Orange full sus from them so they might have done me a deal but I think with 2020 models coming out deals will be available everywhere. Seems like a pretty good bike, but I'd also second Carrera aren't as bad as made out.
