What bike?

Currently commuting daily along canal towpaths and a couple of miles on road. Ideally looking for something with front suspension and fairly lightweight.

I've got a budget of circa £1k - looking at:
- Specialized Crosstrail Elite
- Trek DS 4

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations / any reasons not to go for the above?
