I don't really have the right coverage for taking a bike abroad with my home insurance, so would like to find something to cover me for a trip next week. I can't see a travel + bike insurance (I'm looking for accidental damage incase I stack it).

My home insurance isn't due for a couple of months, and the bikes are covered at home, but not abroad.

Is there a company that will cover me for bike replacement should I have an off? Or should I look to get something like a Bikemo account and go for a more complete coverage?

I used holidaysafe.co.uk for specific MTB cover when I did a trip earlier in the year.

Thanks, but they don't do a single item above £500, it's odd that it's not possible to get that sort of coverage

They cover a bike up to £5000 according to the specific cover details?

Ok, I missed that bit. I saw that they had £5k coverage, but only £500 for the individual item. Will look into it again

Thanks, does your bike have an electronic tag? The insurance seems to demand one

I had missed that in the documents.. Fortunately I didn't need to claim.

The document states
a passive radio frequency tag of ‘Stoptheft’, ‘ImmobiTag’ or ‘Datatag’ make, concealed within the bicycle frame.

The only one of those 3 that has RFID is the immobitag which is pretty cheap.

The document also states
Any bicycle (together with accessories) worth more than £1000 must be fitted with an electronic tag. There must be an external display on the frame to deter theft. The electronic tag must be registered on a database to which police have access.

I assume by display they must mean sticker as none of them have a display

I am now using Bikmo (discounted via British Cycling) - i recently bought a new bike - phoned my house insurance provider to add it and I was told they would not cover bikes over £3000....

This meant finding separate insurance for my new bike - which costs more to insure for a year than any of my cars.

The cover includes travel (worldwide) crash damage and theft as well as some medical cover. When the house insurance is due for renewal I will live my other bikes to bikmo.

Avivaplus insurance seems to cover all values of bikes without having to name them

What's the value of the bike?

Barclays will cover up to £3500 worldwide

https://www.barclays.co.uk/insurance/home-insuranc...

I have a Barclays policy just for bikes (so no contents / building), alongside a Velosure policy for my best road bike (which is over £3.5k)

Bikmo quoted me £178/month, which is quite a lot more than insuring both my C55 AMG and 911.

I use them for travel insurance, but not for the bikes themselves.
