Cannondale CAADX recall
Discussion
Hi
I received an email from Evans today regarding a recall for my 2016 Cannondale CAADX; apparently there is a potential issue with the front forks, which has resulted in 11 accidents including a fatality. More info here -

I just wanted to give PH a heads up as I know there a few on here with the same bike. The upside is a replacement carbon fibre fork, although they are telling owners not to use the bike until the fork is replaced (mid August); I use the bike nearly everyday (only for road use) so I might have to risk it till then....from what I can gather they have sold 11,800 bikes in the US/Canada and as previously mentioned there have been 11 failures; not sure how many bikes are involved in the total recall.

Mine is booked in with Mud Dock in Bristol next week for a fork replacement. I didn't buy it from them but they aren't worried where i got it from which is cool. I've hammered it over the last three years, CX racing & hitting trails, jumping & often hitting 40plus on road sections. Now when I ride it 100 yards up the smooth tarmac road im worried it will suddenly snap & I face plant!
Mud dock also said Cannondale haven't said where the fork fails, only they all need replacing.

ooerr, i didn't know where they were breaking. Mud Dock in Bristol seem really good about it. I bought my CAADX second hand but they didn't care, just sent them a side pic & a pic of the frame number & it was booked in for a replacement. It was actually booked in for this week but the forks haven't arrived so just waiting for the call from them when they are in.

Friend of mine has just been sent this by a guy who recently bought his CX bike off him. Cannondale are refusing to cover the replacement as the new owner is not the original owner, anyone aware of any possible ways to get goodwill out of them on this?
Well the easiest solution in that case was not to have told them it was sold!Herr Schnell said:

Did the person who purchased the bike speak to the retailer or Cannondale direct? I suspect that they may well have spoken to a retailer, who have mistakenly thought that this was dealt with in the same way as a warranty repair. It isn't; this is product safety recall and it doesn't matter that the owner wasn't the original purchaser. Cannondale will be keen to repair all the bikes, irrespective of who now owns them; under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 anyone who is harmed/injured by an unsafe product can sue. I would refer them to Cannondale direct and see what they say.
Thanks for the replies, I don't know the details but will suggest speaking to Cannondale direct if they haven't already and then the scourge of modern day customer relations, twitter.
A tweet of that photo along with "OMG!!! Cannondale don't care if their stty forks kill you to death" or similar might elicit movement.

As cringey as it is, Twitter complaining usually illicits some kind of response from them. A tweet of that photo along with "OMG!!! Cannondale don't care if their stty forks kill you to death" or similar might elicit movement.

still riding mine ,but it does cross my mind as i hurtle down hill at 40 mines an hour , started inspecting the fork when i stop for a cuppa on my ride , not ideal. they should give us all top end models to try out till its fixed
I crashed mine last year in to the back of another cyclist. We both stayed on but the sudden stop broke my wrist. Cycle shop said the forks were fine, but I have been concerned ever since. Even more concerned now so not riding mine!Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
