Hope the heat across Europe eases off a bit!
Incredible what they do... top guys cycling for 24hrs then having 3-4hrs sleep on repeat!
Interesting that it used to be sleep anywhere but now the real fast guys are carrying less and planning their stops in hotels to get quality rest and clean up when they do stop.
Fair play to all those taking part.
Edit.. Just noticed the different direction this year.

In most races I’d still carry emergency bivy kit, just to have the option, but I’d still plan to hotel every night. As you say, it’s for the quality of sleep you get. Across Europe you will never really struggle to find a hotel and I’d trim my kit down to just a lightweight bivy and down jacket (which I’d carry anyway). 3-4hrs kip a night is sustainable but one bad bivy night can change that. I think Björn is in a class of his own this year and I expect him to finish with a day’s margin. I have lots of friends racing again this year and it’s fascinating to watch, with a degree of envy too.
Would / have you consider(d) being a dot again? I know this year is PBP for you.PGM said:
How do you get the view up of the riders next to the map? My mate is #127, Aidan Allcock near the top of your list.
Is the leaderboard working for you for rider position, I can't get mine to show this?
On the link in the OP, it should appear in alphabetical order, if not theres a little arrow on the right of the rider name column, click it until that arrow points up.Is the leaderboard working for you for rider position, I can't get mine to show this?

Yes, it’s my current plan for next season, but subject to a few things. Real life may get in the way and force a move to shorter races. I’m also going to look at the parcours for No8 before making a decision. Entries likely need to be in by October though. I considered Trans Am my first race as a non-rookie and was pleased with how I was managing that race (a bit too conservative but otherwise very well). I had some bad luck so I’d like to get a clean race in and see where I stand.
Already some drama with favourite Bjorn reportedly slowed by saddle sores and a lady, Fiona Kolbinger, holding #3 spot.
Interesting to see how strung out the field has already become.

Anyway, huge respect to each and every rider! I'd love to tackle an epic like that but advancing age means it must forever remain a pipe-dream.

Fiona has moved into 1st overall now that the second night’s sleep strategies have played out. Impressive ride. Hopefully a sustainable pace but we won’t really know until day 4-5 if anybody’s cutting too much sleep.
Björn has been at CP2 for 15 hours already. Those sores would need around 2-3 days to scab over and toughen. I doubt he’s waiting that long but perhaps he’s waiting for medical facilities to open to get some treatment?
Matt has ridden well despite a lot of punctures. He’d ridden up to 9th place and then took a long rest at CP2.
For me this is where the race gets interesting, as riders are now free-routing and it’s a long way to CP3. Lots of opportunities for clever strategy.
