Relive end of?
Discussion
I got emails from both yesterday.
Strava said relieve had made changes that misused the data (due to privacy issues)and relieve said they hadn’t.
Relieve said they changed it back but strava had kept them out and refused to answer their calls.
Either what relieve did was really bad or strava were looking at a way of getting rid of them and not looking like the bad guys.
Perhaps strava will now release a similar feature?

Getting a hint of Strava edging towards abuse of it's dominant position
Here is Ray, who I suspect knows most of the people involved on both sides

And remember kids, if you use Strava for free (and even if you pay for the premium stuff), then your data is the main product

Dont even see the big deal with relive. It just draws a line through a map. Wow. Most the time you cant even really work out where the ride has gone due to the detail level and the way the map rotates, but people seem obsessed with 'reliving' their ride onto my clubs message board. Does my head in

I think it looks nice and makes your rides look more epic, which is I suppose the point. JPJPJP said:

This is the funny point to me. It’s strava who are making money from your data getting upset with relieve who are making money of them making money (from your data)
When strava started they didn’t have an app or anything, they were relying on garmin etc and for us to transfer the activities to strava.
Sure, I like how strava displays stuff and things like the route creators and heat maps but they’re all just piggybacking our data in different ways.
I'll be honest and say I liked Relive at first, and it's not like I don't like it anymore, but I've just not bothered to open the email and "create" the relive video clip" for ages. Probably because most of my recent rides are too short, and lack any interesting elevation to be of interest to anyone else, and there doesn't seem much point in using the tool if you don't intend to share it.
As for my data being the main product? So what, really. The payback I get from seeing my ride data in one easy-to-manage place is worth it right now, and I can get my heatmap fro free via the 'Toolbox For Strava' site. Again, I'm not fussed about sharing this, or printing it off, but it's nice every now and then to dip into it to see where you've been and how "hot" some patches of the map are.
Sad that the two entities have parted company, but I'll not be devastated if Relive fails, whereas I would be disappointed if Strava disappeared.

I mean, Relive even respects privacy zones. I'm not sure that doing it manually would.... (Edit: NO, it doesn't)
This is the last ride I did up - https://www.relive.cc/view/2509595230. I particularly like that it shows max speed!
Glad for the manual input feature, though. I do like how they look, and now I can apply it to older rides, like this https://www.relive.cc/view/r10006543044!

I was very lucky that I could still use it when I did a multi-day solo sponsored walk a couple of months ago. It was great that I could Tweet my progress from Relive to show sponsors where I was and include photos. Really brilliant for that. snobetter said:

Sorry for the delayed reply. My mistake, it wasn't where I thought it was. Try this... https://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php ...you'll have to link to your Strava account, and chop down the numbr of activities if you're in any sort of a hurry.yellowjack said:
