Due to the World Champs taking place in my hometown of Harrogate my wife and I will be taking our erm...second holiday later than usual this year, most likely second week in October.

She works pretty full on so prefers a more relaxing holiday whereas I overcome my boredom of that by heading out on my hire bike for 3-4 days.

The Canaries have worked pretty well so far but TBF we are both looking at something a bit different.

So.

High quality destinations that will offer 20+ degree temps in early October along with good cycling to keep me happy biggrin

My initial thoughts so far have been the French/Italian Riviera (San Remo or Nice), Majorca or Girona.

Love to hear any suggestions, the more leftfield the better! One thing which she hates on a relaxing holiday is having to travel everywhere by car.

Sardinia, Siciliy, Corsica or Madeira could all be similar to your tastes, with subtle differences.

Morocco could interest you (outskirts of Marrakech, coastal town of Essaouira or out in the Atlas), though a car/taxi is useful if you're looking to move around. The 'Turkish riviera' around Bodrum/Izmir/Datça is another option. A little further to go and kind of at the cusp of the season, but great food and hospitality. Chances are you'll find pretty good weather, if a little windy. The cycling isn't too shoddy there.

I keep suggesting Montenegro to everybody. Kotor Bay is stunning and the nearby Durmitor National Park is epic for riding. That has something for both of you. It's just south of Croatia so I'd expect the weather to be good October too.

Spain’s Costa Blanca is a great area for cycling and also general holidaying. Javea, Moraira and Altea are ideal.

Do you know if the dates for the Volta in February 2020 agreed yet? Your final link appears to be selling a package but I can't see the dates. I come out every year for it.

No idea, sorry. I only know this year's event begins July 31st. https://www.volta-portugal.com/

How far are you willing to travel? Chang Mai would be a great option BUT october is tail end of rainy season so averages about 10 days.

Cyprus in October is pretty good weather wise, late twenties and it doesn't tend to rain much, depends what sort of hotels you're into, I'm heading to the Anassa this year, looks fairly pleasant, and lots of mountains about for bikes. Bit more remote though but the hotel looks to have most things.

Was going to suggest Gran Canaria but failing that Majorca. Both will be busy with cyclists that time of year so safety in numbers on some of the roads.

I would say usually yes, October is stretching pool time towards the end of the month and is the month my wife and I have our last swims of the season. September is our favourite month, so early October should be fine. Should be getting around 23C average with real-feel a degree or two higher in sheltered areas, warm Sun, blue skies etc.

This year is a bit cooler than most so far, not a great June albeit pleasant and so far a cooler July. Might change and if August is its usual hot self, then it'll heat everything up and October water will still be very swimmable.

Mauritius - mid twenties in October and some good roads in the South and centre of the island. Some decent climbs too.
