I've created a route on map my ride - i sent it to my google account via the correct file type etc and loaded it up in my phone. I then tried to use the google map app, as i didn't have a clue where i was going (i was planning on keeping the phone in my pocket & listening to the directions). But couldn't get it to work.

Anyone have an app that they use on their phone that you can create a route and follow it with voice directions as well as map - i don't plan on getting a phone mount so that feature in MYR doesn't really help - nor do i want to splash out on a cycle sat nav.

Like you I use my phone and Google Maps is something I struggled to get to work with imported gpx's. IMO its great for routes created in google maps, but for anything else its naff.

I'm assuming you've created gpx files, in which case they can be uploaded to several different apps. I use Strava or Plotaroute to create the gpx and then upload them into OSMAND

This guide is good for detailing how to setup (its a bit qwirky) and works well with bluetooth headphones for directions.

OSMAND is good for recalculating the route if you miss a turn, it will get you back onto your original route rather than recalculating the entire route which is what google directions can do - handy if you have set waypoints you want to get to
