I'm looking to buy a cycle sat nav thing as a gift. My other half regularly is a cycle leader in her cycle club.
She plans the routes out on Strava to share with the group.
I gather the standalone sat nav units are superior to a mobile phone?
I'm thinking around the £250 mark, but if something a bit more expensive is superior I'm good with that.
Help me out.

Personally i’m A Garmin man but a lot of people recommend the Wahoo, here’s all your options;

Wahoo Element is the best for that budget. I have one and the missus has the Bolt which is the smaller version.
They sync to starve route easily although if you plan them on RideWithGps you get turn by turn instructions also. The map isn't the most detailed in the world but it is totally adequate for cycle route planning.

I have the Garmin 530 Edge - it is a great unit, does all you need and is a new model and fits your budget.

I pondered over the new Wahoo Roam and Garmin Edge 530 and eventually settled on the Garmin (£250). The older Wahoo units were superior to the Garmin at the time, but apparently the mew Roam is not great. The Garmin does pretty much what I want - I drag a route on the Connect website and the phone app syncs that with the unit, the navigation beeps nicely and the screen has been easy to understand. Any ride automatically syncs with Strava when completed. I use Garmin speed/cadence sensors and a Wahoo HRM and they all just work.
I have a Garmin Edge Touring plus, basically the GPS and mapping bits from the 820 with the hardcore cycling stuff like power meter connectivity removed. (It can still connect with H/R & cadence, but I use my watch for recording the ride, it’s only for the GPS) it was less than £200 4 years ago.
Advertised as up to 17 hour battery life, but if actually using it for guidance you’re lucky to get more than 8 hours, even with backlight to minimum etc.
I gather Garmin have improved their battery performance on more recent models (and the tourings have been discontinued) but if/when I look to replace, I’d go Wahoo at the moment... I think per pound they seem better value.
