Im having problems with the new chain I've fitted to my Cube reaction Race 11 speed E-Bike, with Shimano XT drivetrain. The new chain is noisy and it sucks up from the front sprocket and wedges into the frame.

I previously had a new cassette and chain fitted by my local bike shop in February, as my cassette had worn. I kept the receipt as it had all the part numbers for the cassette and chain. This chain they fitted is now showing 0.5% wear on my chain checking tool so I decided to replace it. The receipt said it was a Sram PC1130 chain with 120 links, so I purchased this exact chain again from Amazon.

I cut this new chain down to the same size as the one I removed, and fitted it, but I'm getting the problem above, its noisy (metal on metal) and sounds like it isn't meshing with the cassette or front sprocket, and it keeps sucking up onto the frame, so I've refitted the old chain back on, and it works perfect.

So why would the new chain not work properly? Im wondering of the chain that the bike shop fitted was actually a different type from a large roll they have, and they just scanned any old chain for the purpose of charging me? However, this chain and the new one I've fitted look identical.

The sprocket wears with the chain, and such a small front sprocket will wear pretty quickly, especially on an e-bike. I’d suggest that is where your problem lies.

Is the link that you used to join the chain fully extended? Easiest way to check is to freewheel the chain backwards with the pedals. If you see the slightest snag then this could cause it to suck up when it passes over the front ring.

Yes, you could be right, maybe I need to invest in the chain ring removal tools and crank puller.

When i put a new chain on recently it ran like crap, chain suck, sounded and felt bad. Stopped and put on some wet lube, found the best gear and carried on to see how it went. Gradual improvement in each gear and eventually about halfway around the Swinley sand and grit had worn the old chain wear irregularities off the cogs and ring and bedded in the new chain. Been fine since and actually ran the best it ever has for a little bit.

Doubt its the right way to do things but it was just the new chain needed to bed into and make the cogs its own rather than trying to fit where a worn chain was.
