Anyone have any recommendations?

Looking for cover for a 5 day trip to the Alps in a few weeks. £3k bike, no racing, just 3 days of road cycling and 2 days in a car getting there and back.

Looking for combined cover for bike and myself!

Ya in advance smile

Won't your home insurance cover it?

We're with Aviva and it cost some trivial amount of money to insure our cycles (they just base the charge on the most expensive bike) and it covers us for theft etc all over Europe.

I use yellow Jersey.

https://www.yellowjersey.co.uk/

Slightly more expensive than some options, but covers everything you need for the bike and trips etc. Well worth it in my opinion!

Jesus!

Just run some details through there for a normal bicycle quote, annual policy, mid-tier cover on a £1600 Cube e-bike and it's quoting me £148. For a bicycle!!! yikes For ONE bicycle.

To put this into perspective that is four quid more than I and the OH are paying for her Yamaha R1 motorbike, and 140 less than I am paying for a £15k new Yamaha R1 motorbike. It's £70 less than insuring her Merc SLK.

The cover they're providing for this ludicrous premium doesn't even look much different to that provided on the cycle extension on our Aviva home policy which cost (I've just checked) £24.83 for two Cube e-bikes (£1600 each) and a Voodoo MTB (£1000). This covers european use too.

Seriously OP - do check your home policy and see if you can add your bikes on.

Got to have a look at more of this - Ultimate cover £198 ! Wow!

Fair play.

Depends on your needs. I pay £128 pa for 6 bikes, Uk and europe cover. extra equipment, Race day over and accidental damage.

Most home policies don't cover accident damage - which can be pricey on a carbon frame ....

As long as you can find a policy giving you the full cover you need then thats awesome.

Wow! They want £72 for a 3 week trip to Cyprus, pretty sure my house insurance already covers this...

As mentioned above the home insurance won't be the same as a cycling specific cover. Maybe you don't care about the differences, but do think about what you want covered and check it definitely is covered!

Some things to think about:

- Bikes stolen from inside car when parked up (eg. ferry, motorway services etc)
- Stolen from storage room in a hotel/motel/lodge etc (locked/unlocked)
- Stolen when left unlocked for "just a minute" outside a cafe/toilets etc
- A car reverses into the bikes in a car park, driver leaves and cannot be traced
- Damaged beyond repair in a 'solo crash'

- What happens with the rest of the trip if any of the above happens.

All the theft instances and the bike being damaged described above are covered as long as proper locks are used - I checked very specifically on this point.

I wouldn't be sticking my oar in but those yellowjersey premiums are up there with top end 200mph motorbikes! And that's just for my relatively cheap e-bike.

By "myself" I assume you mean medical and repatriation. In that case I would start with that as far more important and larger liability. Probably £20k for an Air Ambulance.
The personal belongings section of a travel policy might cover the first £2k although there will be a limit per item.

Perfect, thanks for all the suggestions smile

Went with Bikmo in the end, easy to use and good price for comparable cover.
