Looking at a new bike. I currently have a 2012 Specialized Roubaix Elite, 10 speed, 105.

Jumping up a level and staying with Specilized Roubaix as I like the geometry (I have looked at Trek, Canyon, etc).

Would you go:

Specialized Roubaix Pro 2018 with Dura Ace at circa £4,050 (with 10% discount on £4,499 sale price)

Specialized Roubaix Expert Ultegra Di2 2019 from £5,000

Specialized Roubaix Expert Ultegra Di2 2020 at £5,399

Interested which people would choose of these 3.

Newer bike with Ultegra Di2 or older cheaper bike with mechanical Dura Ace?

I would 100% go electronic in this day and age despite how good the DA mechanical is, di2/eTap/EPS is the future, and faultless shifting.

You can get the 2020 Expert for £4860 with 10% BC discount at Evans.

I'd also keep an eye out for older S-Works frame-sets in the sale, they can often be had for around £2000 and then you can build then up as you wish. An ultegra di2 groupset is around £1100 and then you can have whatever wheels you choose.

Get the 2020 Roubaix, I’ve got the same model and it’s a fast bike, don’t notice the future shock 2.0 on the climbs at all, even at full bounce.

I think the 10% BC discount at Evans is for clothing, parts and accessories. Not too sure that you can use it against a bike? Be good if you can, but not so sure.

I picked up a second hand bargain with 6870 Di2 and am looking to upgrade (to discs), and I'm only considering Di2 bikes (or factoring in build cost) - it's *really* nice.

I'd agree with the above at looking for older models or frames, then you can pick your own bits.

Don't think its really the future. Has electronic shifting trickled down the mass market bikes? Not really and I'm not entirely sure we will ever get there.

I believe that Shimano will never tickle the Electronic shifting down to 105 level.

However given the incredibly difficult choice the OP has to make, I would go with Ultegra Electronic. Throw some insulating tape round the model names and they probably won'tr be able to tell the difference between Ultegra Electronic and Dura-Ace Electronic.

I did see the 2nd one but it's a lot of cash for a bike with no guarantee.

The other option is to buy an 2018 S-Works frame for £1.5k and built one myself.

The older one has 11r carbon layup which is previous s-works level. The other two are 10r which they tend to use on the more run of the mill so you get that frame with anything from 105 to di2 as here. I’d go with the older one, great frame, great groupset.

Electronic shifting, no question. I have the R8070 groupset on my Aeroad, it's bloody brilliant. I will not buy another mechanical groupset equipped bike again.

So the idea is the older 11r Carbon frame with Di2 Ultegra. Might have to piece together a build.

Trust me, DI2 is wonderful. It just works flawlessly. Every shift is always the same. You know that feeling you get when you get fresh inner and outer cables fitted and the groupset set up just perfectly? Imagine that, only better, all the time.

Personally, I quite like the wireless bluetooth unit which you can buy separately - it allows di2 to communicate with your head unit. On my Garmin I can get it to switch data screens (handy when you quickly want to view the map, then flick back to your normal screen, especially when descending...no taking your hands off the bars). I can also start/stop, add a lap or whatever using the hood buttons. It also allows you to show you the current di2 battery level. The only thing I will say is the first 70% of the battery seems to last ages, but that final 30% seems to drop much, much quicker. So I'd say when it hits 40%, maybe do 1 more ride and then charge it.

If you click through to product details...”This product has had a crack in the frame repaired. The repair is guaranteed for life, and the frame carries the standard warranty. See images for more details. The Dura Ace shifters have also been replaced by Ultegra shifters. Please be assured that the product has been fully checked over by our team and is in full working order.”

Don’t forget the current Roubaix has a much better future shock and more aero frame.

Well spotted - I hadn't seen that bit.

On the listing page it says 'Hurry, last few left'

I expect there is only the knackered one left and that there aren't a few with identically cracked frames / downgraded shifters

Now I know that, I wouldn't touch it with a long pole. I'd rather take my chances on the bay with a second hand one!

Depends on how much effort you want to make, but you could probably build a higher spec than this for similar money. Actual prices from building my Tarmac a couple of months ago after a lot of shopping around. I know that 2020 Roubaix Frame is new but I recon id find someone to sell it <2.9k.
