Came to fit the tow hook that came with the car today for a bike rack, all went well but I did notice a plastic cover over the ball. Obviously I took it off but I wondered what it was for; do you put it back on when you're not using the hook, to stop corrosion? Dunnoconfused BTW the rack is Thule XT3 easy fold, which on the basis of driving round the block with 2 bikes on I can heartily recommend, set off with 2 bikes, came back with 2, result! It will take an individual bike up to 30kg so you can add an Ebike into the mix if you wish.

The plastic cover is simply to put on the detachable tow bar when not in use. If you leave the tow bar in the car when not in use, it will stop the tow bar damaging your interior.

I have the same bike carrier. It is very good but only necessary if storage space is limited.

Fair enough, I'm probably going to leave the hook on all the time, cheers.

Did you get a foam protection for the side that unlocks the locking mechanism?

I take the tow bar off when not in use.

I've got the easy fold. Great bit of kit, just back from Scotland. 2 bikes, 800 odd miles, 70 mph no problem....
