Hi all,

Looking for advice. I've got a 2010 Orange Five in beautiful Apple Candy Green) Its had good use but in all honesty never used in any great anger.

It's now been on my garage wall for over a year and I haven't touched it. Before that it sat in my dad's workshop shed for 5 years...... Meaning the last time I rode it was when I lived in Edinburgh.

It makes no sense for me to keep it but Ive been hanging onto it with the thought of what if..... But let's face it I could rent a bike from most trials centres.

Work and personal time means being a roadie and an indoor Zwift roadie is far more appealing (or at least realistic)

I don't know what its true worth is (most on Facebook marketplace seem to be c.2013 bikes at £800+). So say I might get £400.... Is it worth moving it on or keep it as an ornament.

I'd say sell it. It's probably not going to rise in value any time soon (if ever), and if you're like me then if you decide to get back into riding MTB you'll probably man maths yourself into buy a new bike!

Is there a good place to sell these things. I know Facebook gets a knocking but after moving into my new house and moving alot of good furniture on at the price desired I'm keen to use that. But if eBay is better I can sign up?

Also will I get more money for frame only or as a complete bike? Will it be more desirable without 2010 Race Face / XT etc on it... LoL

Just get rid. It sounds like you haven't used it enough for any sentimental value, and it barely has any value as an mtb now because it's so outdated. Either stick it on ebay as no-reserve, or put on Facebook that the first person to message you can have it.

I moved my 2015 Trek Fuel to HK when I moved. The rear mech was damaged in transit and I 'took the opportunity' to upgrade it to an XT 1x setup.

I used it once. It took up too much space on the balcony (the roadbikes live inside so no room there!) there it sat for 8 months before I decided to just offload - sold it for 300 quid. Less than the cost of the drivetrain upgrade - but it was a weight off my shoulders to be honest. It wasn't going to be used often enough to earn its keep so someone else might as well enjoy it.

You'll probably get more money from splitting it but you'll also get a load more grief. Multiply the number of parts you plan on selling by the potential number of muppet and dreamers and figure out if you can tolerate the grief.

Some of Facebook selling groups might result in less hassle than the open Marketplace perhaps.

I think at that age/value it might not be too much of a problem. Selling current/desirable stuff may well be. I am just listing some 90s XTR stuff on eBay after I realised they actually have a decent retro value now!

I kept my 2012 Lapierre (26", 3x10, steep) when I bought my new bike, thinking I'd use it to bring friends out. I did, but only twice in 10 months. Now I have the same issue. I won't get much for selling it, but I really don't need it for anything. At this stage I have made up my mind to sell it for a few hundred quid, it is taking up a lot of space in my small apartment.

I've got a 26" HT in the garage that I haven't ridden for a few years now, it cost me a pretty penny ten years ago, so I don't want to sell it, but can't see me ever riding it again.

I'm holding out hope that if the missus ever wants to join me for a trail ride, she can have a go on it.

Haha that is very similar to how I feel. I think I paid £2300+ which even today is a fair chunk.

The bike just looks too good to sell especially with the low market value it holds. Think my issue is to getting out (and I know I'll get a tap on the head for this) I'd want some new riding gear (I'm no longer a 30" waist....) and maybe a refresher in some running gear..... Also and probably most importantly just isn't the riding mates around to make it an easy choice.

I find that if I spend a bit of money on new shiny bits, groupsets, cables etc, and do the spannering myself, I feel more attached to it, and I end up keeping a bike, when it would ordinarily make no sense to do so.

Do you need the space or the money?
If not, keep it. In a few years you might miss it..

So this is the thing. It's not money nor is it space. Im fortune to have a good size garage where I've built a little cave at the end for my Zwifting (gone a little far with it tbh).

So my Orange and my wife's (used 3 times.....) Trek sits neatly on the wall behind.

It dawned on me the other night why do I have them if I may never ride them again especially with the elapsed time since they last saw action. Also I thought well Id like a Wahoo Element Bolt or maybe a stages power meter so the sale could be useful. But I haven't even sold them and I'm getting sellers remorse haha.....

Thanks to those who contributed. Will have to think a little more before pulling the trigger!

Think my 2002 Scalpel will eventually be gifted to my 15yr old lad, it's better than the barely used 2001 Trek he's currently riding!

That's when I can justify buying myself a new bike, won't be in the same league as the Scalpel which cost me over £3k back then!

Sell it and put the money towards something more useful. If you don’t you’ll be starting a similar thread in five years time but the bike will be even more outdated and worth half as much.

If you really do miss it there are plenty around on eBay and Pinkbke. I bet you won’t wink

I still have one of these in the shed. Was my uni race bike and loved it so much that I can’t bring myself to get rid.

Actually I might start reconditioning it! Mmmmm there’s a thought.

And actually my standard ride (out with daughter and leisure rides now) is this 2001/2 Gary Fisher Sugar2

For its time it was an amazing XC full suspension bike.
