Hello,

Got a full suspension mountain bike and did the Kitchener route at Sherburn pines.

I loved it and did it again the day after. My mate who took me has taken me to some more extreme downhill stuff today and I didn’t like it.

Im just not that good yet and huge drops / jumps I’m really not up too, plus it was bitty go over ere well try this over ere now. What I really liked with Kitchener is you could do few sections have a min then carry on and you also ended up back Nr the car.

Anyone know of others like this ?

Im currently living in Yorkshire.

I can't help you, but the Kitchener Trail is great fun. Although it doesn't have any serious downhill, blasting round it can be seriously knackering and difficult. Go first thing and it is normally deserted too. The peak district is relatively near but that is much more about downhill skills and confidence. I also do a lot of off road on bridlepaths around the area but the Kitchener is sort of a sweet spot between both types of riding. I'm interested to hear of others in the area too.

If sherwood pines is your local, ride it as much as you can and go faster each time.

Then look for any other 'trail centre' type place, there's loads about. These will typically have waymarked routes graded blue, red and black. Not all blues or reds are the same however, but at least you'll get an idea from the grading.

It can be a pain trying to find trails in the woods that only people who know the area know where they are, but don't be afraid to walk sections if you're not confident yet. Give it 6-9 months of riding and you'll probably be riding those trails that you didn't want to ride at first, wondering what the fuss was all about biggrin

This is a great website for trail centres - https://www.moredirt.com/mountain-bike-trails also download trailforks or have a look at the website, trail centres are VERY easy to spot on there!

Edit: if you're in Yorkshire, get yourself to Dalby forest.

Youtube is a great tool for seeing what a trail centre is like. Dalby Forest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0hLPoQVQUM

The monkey trail and follow the dog at cannock chase are both brilliant routes, although a fair bit further depending on where you are in Yorkshire.

Lady Cannings plantation Sheffield way is similar (actually marginally easier).

I did Grisedale on a Carrera Kraken about 10 years ago and that was not particularly scary (can’t remember the route name) just lots of fast singletrack.

As fun as Lady Cannings is, it isn't a long trail like the Kitchener at Sherwood Pines.
