I was clearing out some odds and sods from my old man’s house today, and I found this in the garage.







This is my first proper road bike ( the actual bike ), and it dates from the mid 1980s. I had no idea that he’d kept hold of it for all these years. It’s actually not completely knackered either. I may fix it up as a project, and see if I can get it rolling again.

that handlebar stuff on the drops was pretty good IIRC

It was a lot easier than wrapping with tape.

I remember them failing to work very well, and exploding into a pile of springs, plastic, lamps and reflectors if you hit anything like a pot hole.

I remember someone in our club labelling them his as his battery eaters

Given that batteries were consumed pretty quickly and that the output was fractionally less than a fag end in a fog, I think that was about right.
