In 2012, I decided I liked cycling so much that I was ready to get something a bit special. I ordered a Cervelo R3 frame, 3T carbon forks and bars. Then took it to my local bike shop to have it built up.

I loved the bike, it was so good having a light weight quality bike to push through the miles.

I came to the realisation yesterday that I just dont use it enough and decided to stick it up on ebay. Getting it out of the garage, it was dusty. So I spent the afternoon cleaning it with wipes and it was back to looking its best. Almost to the point I did consider not selling it.

But it seems a waste to just have a bike like that sitting in the garage. It hasnt been used in at least 12 months.
I am possibly going to regret it. Has anyone else fallen out of love with cycling and then gone on to regret selling their bike?

Do you need the money? If not, don’t sell it.

I’ve got a Ti road bike sitting in my dad’s garage, but I can’t bring myself to sell it on. It rarely gets used, but I won’t sell it just in case I decide to be a roadie again sometime.

I’ve just sold my Ti road bike having used it on only a handful of occasions over the last few years. I don’t have the time to do 4/5 hr rides anymore and the appeal of riding on road has really worn off anyway with so many people seemingly not giving a stuff about cyclists.

I loved owning and looking at it and was sad to see it go but I’d rather someone else actually use it and enjoy it. It’s been replaced by a Specialized Levo which has really put the fun back in to cycling for me. So no regrets here.

Andy, I’ve got an R3 too. Similar age. Great bikes but they don’t go for much second hand, even as a full bike maybe £800-£1000. There’s no way you’d be able to replace such a quality frame for that sort of money. Team Dimension Data were still using that frame at Paris Roubaix in 2017, it’s that good.

I use mine as my winter bike now, seems a shame really.

Many thanks for your comments, I do appriciate what has been said.
I am a bit sad and annoyed at myself. I used to really enjoy cycling, I would push myself to go further and further in distance. Finding new routes avoiding main roads was also fun. I wish I was still doing it as I am a lot fatter now than I was when doing it. I just have become lazy and lost my mojo for it.

I don't need the money as such, but could do with the space back that the bike takes up. I am thinking about getting a SUP, so am going to see it through and justify the Sup purchase with the money raised from the bike. At least by selling one thing, my wife will not be able to have that look she has when I get a new toy tongue out

People are now bidding on it, although it hasn't even covered the current going price of the wheels as of yet.

My upgraded Cannondale Scalpel sat in my garage for years, I used to ride 4-5 times a week.

Considered selli g it a few times but have now dusted it off & started going out with my lad, the bike is just as good I remember (sadly I'm not hehe).

So glad I didn't sell it, I'm sure modern bikes are much better but I love it!

FWIW I’ve regretted selling every bike I’ve owned, from the 1st generation alu Boardman which had great race geo and was so stiff, my Commencal Super 4.2 which was stupidly fast over most xc courses and trail centres, my Cervelo RS which was the comfiest bike I’ve ever ridden, to my 160mm hooligans hardtail Cotic BFe.

Don’t sell it.

Like you I've put on some weight which is more than cipollini recommend for. The bike, I've had a slow start to the year but I hope to have lost enough to get back out on it come the res of summer, should we ever get there? Lose wfhe weight and use it man!

I have picked myself up a GT Cyclocross bike as a more hardy general bike. It's actually alright to ride, quicker than I thought tbh.

The Cervelo is currently selling in the auction that ends tomorrow. I agree with all the above, it does seem a shame as its bids are just up to £560, which isn't much, but maybe it will pick up tomorrow when it ends. Maybe one day I will catch the bug again, but the spark just isn't there now.

I figured that if I fancy a ride, I can jump on the GT.
