I have just upgraded one of my bikes with a Shimano R7000 105 Groupset. The rear mech is very odd regarding the cabling. I’ve got a choice of feeding the cable through the hole on the left of the clamp, underneath the clamp and then up on the right of the clamp, or down on the right of the clamp, around the clamp and up through the hole on the left. Does anyone know which way it’s supposed to be? The instructions that came with it were for the usual ( older ) type of mech, where the cabling route is obvious, and the online version seems to be written in Clingon or something.

Just fitted an R7000 to my Grade but haven't got a decent picture of how the cable is routed and can't remember off the top of my head, I'll take a photo for you if you can wait until Friday.

Factoring everything including price into the equation, R7000 105 is the greatest mechanical groupset ever made.

If component mass isn't a priority it makes certain non Shimano groupsets a bit redundant as they have worse shifting quality for a much higher price.

I will send some pics across of my 105 cable routing when I get a chance.

There is actually only one way that works. It’s down through the little hole, then clamped so the cable points away from the wheel. It will go the other way, but it’s impossible to get the indexing consistent that way. Which is odd, because the front mech is routed what seems the strange way, but the front mech comes with a little sticker on it which shows you which way to route the cable. The shifting is super slick, and in my opinion just as good as the Ultegra 6800 on one of my other bikes. I’ll give it a test ride tomorrow, once it stops raining.

That’s a picture of the way that works.

And that’s the way that doesn’t

Yep, that’s it, down on the left, that’s what seems to work. Although you can tidy it by coming back up a bit on the right. laugh
