Hi, I’ve noticed that on pretty much every mountain bike I’ve had the disc brakes seem to ‘creep’ on if they haven’t been used for a while, going uphill and that sort of thing.

The only thing that seems to back them off is a slight application, then it happens again.

I’ve tried the usual pushing the pistons back etc and I can’t seem to solve it.

I’ve had it on shimano XT, slx and Hayes gram.

Anyone got any suggestions? It’s frustrating.

Thank you

Sometimes it helps to slightly bend the spring retainers out a little .

Calipers need lining up properly. None of ours do this (four people / four bikes) but i maintain them and make sure they don't.

Also, hydraulic or cable disks? Cable ones may suffer from cable friction preventing the pads from parting properly.

If the pistons have been pushed back, then either caliper not lined up properly (loosen the bolts, press the brake lever firmly, and whilst holding it, tighten the bolts) or a sticky piston - if hydraulic.
