Before the shaming starts, I have a lot going on in my life, so little or no time to train.

I used to ride about a couple of hundred miles a month, but done pretty much zero in the past year. Living at the bottom of the peak district means it hard to go out with my normal cycling chums, without holding them back (a lot).

Thinking of getting an E-road bike, ideally, want to buy used (and hopefully save a big chunk in the process)

I've checked out the usual sites, FaceB, eBay and Bikeradar, as well as pedelc, is there somewhere else I should be looking.

cheers

Want a Road Bike not MTB

Road ebikes are quite rare and not many new, I cant imagine many on the SH market, then you have to ensure one is the right size for you. Probably more hybrids for sale, but some of these are a bit heavy and limited in output for faster road rides

They do indeed young sir, but with a very heavy bike and heavy rider, with a limited output on steeper hills I can confirm they are not that quick.

Thanks,

They assist up to 15 MPH, and the last time I looked I was riding up Blaze hill at 4 Mph, (just before my garmin went on auto pause, assuming I must have stopped)

I think they will be plenty fast enough for me, (Road bike), my Pinarello Rokh weighs nearly 10kg with all the bits added, I believe an electric bike would only add about 4KG to this.

Including my own weight (80kg) there should be a huge increase in power to weight, especially on the hills (where the assist will kick in most)

Have you had a look at the Ribble road e-bike?

Yes, thanks.

They look good value, I'd rather buy used and save the usual 40%, if not I think I will go for a Ribble.

Giant Road E +1 pro

I have the hardtail mtb version with the same motor. 5 modes all adjustable from the phone app so you can adjust the assistance levels to suit how much effort you want to put in.
The Giant motor is branded Giant but its a Yamaha with Giant software.
Not too much drag when you start to pedal above the assistance level
I'm getting 60-70km(approx 9m per km elevation) from a charge during the winter(70-80km in the summer) and am 100kg. The road version should do better

Does: "adjustable from the phone app" mean that if you're out riding and you want more assistance, you have to do it via the phone? Wouldn't a switch be easier?

Not at all second hand but you need one of these. Your mates will wonder whats happening as you sail past on what looks like a standard road bike

I've got one.

Sorry I know the orientation is wrong, but don't know how to correct it.

Had it a few weeks and it is OK, but they do have their limitations. Which is the weight and when the assistance cuts out it is a bit like hitting a brick wall.

I've got a back injury and thought it wold help me. However, ultimately I think I'd be quicker on a top end road bike where I am (Oxfordshire) but it does mean I'm able to get out more often than I was. I looked at the Nytro but couldn't justify spending that much, though ultimately it does look like the better bike.

You can derestrict them, but then you are out of warranty and riding illegal unless it is on private land.

Ordered one of these for the wife last week. Weight doesn't look too bad and no motor drag when it cuts out. Hoping the xs is small enough for her (she is 155cm).

My Bosch CX motor feels like its hit a wall above the 15mph limit, which is why I derestricted it. Mae riding so much more pleasurable. The de-restrictor device can be popped of by hand at any time, should i need to.

If you already have a road bike then you might consider a conversion kit.

Down side the operation is a bit more crude as it is not torque sensing on the pedals.

Upside they are not speed restricted, and available up to 1000w motors.

Not road legal though rolleyes

UK Road legal conversion kits available from these chaps...

https://www.cytronex.com/

They have a shop in Winchester (or did). On the shop floor they had their kit installed on everything from a step-thru Bobbin to Pinarello/Cervelo road bikes.

Battery in a bottle, motor in the front hub. They build the motor into a wheel for you, so you can easily convert back too, if you have a second front wheel. I was tempted when I got back on the bike again after breaking my leg, and for the same reason as the OP - to avoid "holding up" mates on group rides (albeit MTB rides in my case). Price was against me, though, so I made do without it and did my rehab the harder way...
