Shimano DI2 allows connections between it and a Garmin. I find using the buttons on the lever hoods to change Garmin screens incredibly handy (eg when riding, being able to switch between data fields and the map)....does SRAM Etap allow this?

Cheers!

I have eTap and run a 820 head unit. I'm not aware of this function if it exists. I do wonder how it would work as each lever only have one button; left downshift, right upshift and both to move FD.

How does it work with Di2?

As Ross says, the R8000 series di2 levers have small buttons under the very tops of the hoods that mean you can interact with your Garmin device (providing you have the d-fly module).

I run eTap and confirm there is no such functionality, although I believe it can send data such as battery usage/current gear to a Garmin device, although it isn't one that I use.

Not even the new eTap AXS has this functionality.

Course, the other thing it doesn't have is any wires, which makes it automatically better ;-)

Etap can't control your Garmin. But you can connect to your Garmin to check battery status, what gear you're in etc.

OK thanks chaps. Purely interested for when I come to eventually replace my current bike. It's a feature I use an awful lot so would ideally not want to be without it. I wonder when Shimano will do a 12 speed di2, and whether they'll follow a similar route to SRAM with the smaller chain rings.....?
