Am looking to get a new set of deep(er) section wheels. The choice is
- Zipp 302s; or
- corima ws+ 47s

Similar rim depths. Corimas are 150g lighter (claimed weight of 1500g) but £300 more

Sadly very few reviews of the corimas.

Any thoughts from PH ?

Have you ever thought of Wheelsmith instead?

Zipp's are expensive to maintain and Corima are rare so i'd imagine similar.
Based on what?

Alright mate, you obviously know better. Crack on.
I've never owned Corima, but Zipp still use standard spokes and hubs that you can get into and service etc don't they? I haven't owned a set for a few years, maybe they have gone totally in house with it all...

I've noticed that Evans have the 302's discounted currently. Making them 5-700 cheaper than the Corima's.

I'd probably pick the Corima's though being less ubiquitous. No idea if they are a better wheel or not. Sorry.

He's asking a question, for a bit more detail why they would be more expensive to maintain.

It would be more useful passing on your experience instead of your little tantrum.

I have a set of Viva S (32mm & discontinued) and I really like them. Well made hubs and rims, easy to service, very light and not ubiquitous. I'm looking to get some 47s too in the near future.

i'm sure it wasnt. I've advised that Zipp parts and hub servicing is more expensive than most wheels. Based on the facts of the cost of the parts (£4 per spoke) and lots of bike shops unwilling to service Zipp hubs. This info is also available on google to cross check.
302s have bog standard J spokes. The hubs are typical cartridge bearing jobbies.

Corima make exceptionally good carbon rims, being one of the first companies to explore the material for wheels.

They also use Sapim spokes and standard size cartridge bearings in the hubs unlike say Mavic who tend to use proprietary spokes which can sometimes be difficult to get hold of.

Zipp in the past have had a reputation for not being able to make decent hubs but their latest design seems to have overcome those issues. Radial lacing on the drive side was never a good idea!

I think you’d be happy with either set but the Corima have that bit of extra wow for me.

Both are nice. The spoke layout of the Corima's would concern me - a snapped spoke miles from home would likely mean a wheel that couldn't be fixed by the side of the road and a long walk. The Zipp's are a bit tubby for a carbon wheelset of that ilk and a bit overpriced.

Personally, I wouldn't go for either. At that price point and depth, I'd probably go for a pair of Roval CL/CLX 50's. If you can get over the fact Roval are owned by Specialized, they're a brilliant set of wheels. If price is more of an issue, the Hunt Carbon Aero 50's would be my choice.

I have the 302s and really rate them. No flex, hold speed well and I got them brand new for about £800. Previously had Reynolds 46 aero and despite the 302s being heavier I much prefer them. The braking surface is head and shoulders above the Reynolds too. My LBS is also very happy as sourcing spares for the Zipps is much easier.

Obligatory bike shot:

Thanks all. I agree the Corimas had a bit more “je ne said quoi”... however in the end went for the cheaper zipps. First impressions are good, however agree they do feel a bit plump. Have only done 100 miles; will report back!
Thanks again
