Afternoon All,

Some advice please. I have a cannondale supersix evo 2014 model with a set of Mavic Cosmic carbone wheels. These have covered about 9,000km since then. Now a couple of years back I bought my wife a tri bike and a set of Fulcum quattro wheels (separately). The wheels are 2014 model and she has ridden about 1,000km max on them. I was thinking of switching them over onto the cannondale for the new seasons because:

1. they are not really being used (my wife also has a road bike she uses more often than the tri bike) ,
2. The mavics might be better set on the tri bike.
3. The mavics have alot more wear on them and I wouldnt mind semi retiring them (and would look well on the tri bike also.

Now the drawbacks are:

1. 70g weight penalty on the Fulcrum set over the Mavics.
2. The Fulcrums were a present (but so was the tri bike in my defence).

A third option would be to buy:

I honestly dont need the 'aero' that the mavics have. If anything it makes the bike even more unstable on downhills.

Whats the opinion of the masses? Should I switch or buy new or run the Mavics into the ground.

Many thanks in advance.

Gruffy

9,000km is nowhere near retirement age for those wheels (unless you've been commuting from Paris to Roubaix) and despite persistent dogma 70g of extra weight will make no real difference at all unless you're shredded to the bone and trying to win a national hillclimb title on your 4.5kg single-speed. That said, if it were me I'd use the more aerodynamic wheels (which will make a meaningful difference) and switch to the Mavics on the rare occasion that your wife wants to ride her Tri bike on the same day.
